While I don't condone violence, any player who celebrates to the opposing fans is going to get abused. Simple as. Rio was being a mug. Not saying he deserved it (though I can't say I'm sad it happened) but he took the risk.

What about players who celebrate with their own fans in an away match?

    Read back a few posts.

If you've ever been to an away game you'll know that home fans aren't far away from the away fans.

If an opposition player ran to the corner the away fans are allocated at Stamford Bridge, a Chelsea fan could very easily chuck a coin at him, it's no different at the Etihad.

Don't see your point, Rio DID celebrate in front of the City fans and they were understandably angry with it.

you make out it's difficult to tell who they're celebrating in front of.

To be fair I think they were getting in to the Christmas Spirit and giving money to the disgustingly dressed gypo junkie they saw.

All clubs have their bell end elements & mine's no exception (Everton) we can't even take a plastic bottle beyond the concourse anymore thanks to the morons who used them as missiles when the red ****e visited. So this shouldn't be about one club taking the moral high ground here, as it's happened at most PL grounds. The issue is how do we stop it & what is should the punishment be for those who think it's appropriate behaviour

have you ever been to the etihad? the cameras were facing from the direction of the away end and rio was looking slightly to his right - toward the citeh fans.

a city fan even tried to run onto the pitch, do you think he'd have done that for absolutely no reason? <doh>

I have been there, very nice stadium. I've also seen the incident on Sky Sports News this morning and Rio was celebrating with the United fans. I know that doesn't suit your argument but who wants to pay any attention to the facts, eh?

The bigger question we should be asking is why ManU have a team full of players people would like to stone.

no need to be sarcy is there?

my 'argument' has **** all to do with it, my stance is still that the people who threw the coins are utter bellends, regardless of who he celebrated in front of.

your current players? Only Giggs has, and incidently I have no problem with him, or Scholes. The rest however, have faces I would not stop kicking.
