Up to £80k a day lawyer…seems like a perfectly reasonable thing to do for a club that has nothing to hide :emoticon-0100-smile

How can they argue against enforcing the rules.

Because billions of pounds of investment into your product buys leverage.

The rules are not there for every club, and they do not apply all the time.

Abhu Dhabi, Saudi, Qatar, Spain with Real Madrid and the Basque Government with Barcelona have all shown that the rules are only for some. There are others. Those without access to huge amounts of money and very expensive lawyers.

Serie A have, historically, punished their big clubs (Milan in the totonero scandal of the early 80s, Juventus in the calciopoli scandal of the mid 2000s) and have recently given Juventus a 15 point deduction.
Even closer to home, Premiership Rugby effectively demoted arguably their biggest club when Saracens were given huge points deductions for breaching financial rules.
Rangers were plunged to the deepest depths of the Scottish Football League for their financial shenanigans.
In the latter two cases there could have been an argument for those punishments to have been detrimental to the league as without those clubs the competitions could be deemed less interesting. The leagues didn't flinch though. The Premier League should take note of this. If Man City are guilty, losing them for a few seasons won't dilute interest in the league as there are plenty of big clubs (unlike Premiership Rugby and the SPL) but it will restore confidence in the integrity of the game.

Sky shouldn't come out of this well, their reporting will be interesting and biased towards showing themselves in a good way.

I know there was corruption in football before sky, brown paper envelopes at motorway service stations etc.. but sky's greed and money has taken it to a whole new level. I've always said sky will be the death of football. I wish I was wrong and football is the death of sky...

    No, I haven't been drinking

    Yet.

IF, they were to get dropped a division or four, there would be an unexpected benefit to the Lower League Clubs in the form of a bumper home gate a Season.
You will recall this happened in Scotland.

HOWEVER, I will be surprised if The Premier League's Lawyers and Accountants, beat Abu Dhabi's Lawyers and Accountants, on this one.

I know what you mean but with over 100 charges they can't find a loophole for all of them. I'm sure lots of them will stick it just depends how many of those are serious charges.

I can’t see any of the serious ones sticking. Not because I don’t think they’re guilty, just because I think they’ve become such a financial draw globally that they’ll get away with it. Oh to have a club run n a sustainable manner eh?

That's very true. I hadn't quite looked at it that way but it adds another dimension to that type of punishment doesn't it? It helps out the smaller clubs financially, a very fitting penance for their own greed.

Point 1 would be good for football and lower league clubs.

Point 2 just hope your wrong and justice prevails and not brown paper parcels of money changing hands.

This could take years to sort out.

Depends on the split of serious/not so serious charges I suppose. If there's one big one and all the rest are minor they'll absolutely get away with it, doubt that's the case though.

They may take points deductions or relegation in mitigation given the amount of charges against then.

Reading the Blue Moon Forum, Chitty have done nothing wrong and they will be proved innocent.

Its a conspiracy against the tall poppy.
