Pretty soft ground likely to Doncaster and Newbury, so a watching brief on the flat today. 2.10 Cheltenham – Ash Tree Meadow – 9/4 Bet365, William Hill, generally 2/1 He comes here with plenty of chasing experience over the summer, having previously shown a decent level of form over hurdles last season, where he ended the season competing in a graded level hurdle at Fairyhouse. He’s now won 3 races over fences, as well as running very well behind the high class Henwick in the Galway Plate in July. Reappearing in a Grade 3 at Tipperary, he bumped into a progressive winner, but would have finished a lot closer but for a blunder at the final fence. He sets a decent standard against less experienced novice chasers. 2.45 Cheltenham – Music Drive – 5/2 Bet365, William Hill, generally 9/4 He showed himself to be a fair performer in NH Flat races last season, winning at Naas having bumped into he top class Redemption Day on his debut, before then running a highly creditable 8th in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham. A winner on his hurdles debut at Galway earlier this month, he won with plenty in hand with the suggestion he’d improve a good deal for the run. The yard could have sent numerous contenders here and with such strength in depth, whoever they sent over would have to be respected. This chap could well be pretty decent.
