I actually like the religious side to it, in a community sort of way. Christmas, if nothing else, offers hope and respite to many, it shows that there are still some parts of religion worth acknowledging even if it's only for traditional values. I hate the consumerism side, people taking payday loans to get presents they can't afford, kid at school feeling inferior because their parents haven't been able to get them the bike or the playstation. I love the family side of it though, drinks and food together with people you care about most. I'm excited for it anyway.
It's gone way OTT and is just wrong ........ there's no way back though, we just copy anything American these days.
Actually mate, the consumer side of it apparently we have created all by ourselves. The yanks are big on Thanksgiving but my mate who lives in Miami says they barely spend much money on Christmas and was surprised by the amount we spend over here per head. I guess some septic tanks take it too far like the decorations folk who spend stupid money on lights on their house but it's less so than here nationally, so I'm told.
The way I see it is, for the a lot of people in this Country their lives are so ****ing miserable they have to have something to look forward too, hence the christmas decs going up in the middle of November, the spend, the gifts, the debts the whole ****ing shamoo.. I do think the Yanks will copy us one day on this ****.. They do not help though with the glitzy, houses full of lights crap 'B' movies that they churn out by the bucket load each year and sell to most Satellite companies that then give it a tag like 'Christmas 24' which they show from November 1st. You can just see the chav lasses in their houses that look like ****ing caravans made of bricks sitting, looking through the Littlewoods catalogue ticking away and ordering a grands load of ****e for her 4 kids, none of which can write their own ****ing name at 8 years old.. I love christmas by the way, got St. Lawrence's church 100 yards from me and already booked me and Ella in for the Eve carol service. As my Misses is bedbound, we will record every bit of it for her. Tradition, Mistletoe, Holly, Proper Christmas Trees, Me cooking a beautiful dinner with all the trimmings will never leave our household at christmas, neither will the preverbal christmas eve ****..
Just one ****? I go through a full kitchen roll on Xmas Eve in the shed. All them Miss Clause outfits. ****ing hell mate don't ever lose your sense of humour.
Top man Joe, sounds fantastic We're off to Hexham on the 4th of December so will try to pop in on the way up or back.
Tbh I love the Beatles. But can't stand McCartney (musically) now. As @Quentin Q. Benton says if I'd written that song or anyone else that hardly anyone has heard of, it wouldn't get anywhere!
