Whilst I find it hard to argue your stance, because you're speaking a lot of sense, I'd find it hard to believe that you wouldn't be happy to be a part of that problem if it made you a millionaire.

I just leave mine in the outhouse. It's colder in there than the fridge.

Seriously I can say that I wouldn't want to be a millionaire with money made like that. It is something that you will only have to take my word on:emoticon-0103-cool: I regard myself as complicit through my own ignorance and am as much a part of the problem as everyone else. The problem is so huge it's difficult to know what to do for the best, although stopping buying Chinese junk would be a start. Check out the environmental forum on peakoil.com. people are trying their best to open our eyes to what is going on, not many listening though.
As to the original topic of this forum, I found it particularly obscene that the shops started advertising Christmas before Rememberance Day.

I have no interest in the environment mate, or what hippies think is going on in the world.

I've never come across anybody who would opt out of a life of luxury because they don't want to deal with cheap labour on their conscience. It happens in the world, it's not like you're spearing dolphins for their eyes, it's cheap labour, something that creates global competitiveness and healthy international relations. Somebody has to play the monkey, we can't all be organ grinders.

As someone who cares greatly about the religious aspect I'd be looking forward to it irrespective of the other stuff.

But I absolutely love the whole thing and celebrate it under my own terms.

I love the excitement for children and the way people are just that bit nicer to everyone.

And, every year, even when I think the 'novelty' has worn off or that it's become too commercial something magical happens.

If you believe it then it happens ....

It's called.... hang on, it's coming to me...

The Law of Attraction... a theory put forward in a fantasy script called 'The Secret' that many people are basing their entire existence on.

Of course I don't believe in it, but it's one of those things, if it doesn't work then you're not 'believing hard enough' or 'thinking positively' enough.

I think good things happen at Christmas due to people in this country being brought up with empathy and respect, on the whole, it gets passed around from generation to generation and it works, like Smug says, people are just a bit nicer to everyone at that time of year.

Unless they work in retail, then they're just **** on non-stop, like a marathon of turds raining down on them.

Spare a thought for your retailers <ok>

Sorry to hear that, if that's your view. It's leading scientists by the way, not hippies that contribute to that forum. It's obviously of no interest to you, but people are working just to survive on a pittance for companies who also 'couldn't give a ****' (jabba-the-hutt Ashley being one) who supply ****e to other ignorant people who also 'couldn't give a ****e' around the world.
To which all leading scientists mainly agree is that it is turning the world to ****e and the environment is collapsing and turning to ****e. Unfortunately those that 'couldn't give a ****e' are effectively putting holes in the boat we are all floating on , which is now basically on a sea of ****e.
Your way of thinking is probably the way ahead.......are you an ostrich by any chance?<laugh>
