I didn't mate. I'm just going off what is posted on this board. He still didn't work for The Echo back then either, though. That bit about putting a Newcastle supporter out of a job, so a Sunderland supporter can work, is to tribal for me. These are people's lives, and families lives. Football isn't that important.
This is his goodbye to the local paper in Dundee so he obviously new it was controversial; "Having done my stint of four years at Tele HQ I’m offski. Pastures new are calling and Premier League football with the Sunderland Echo. Yes, you did read that right — Sunderland. And before you all start, I’m a Geordie, yes, but, first and foremost, a football fan. And, in my defence, I haven’t supported a club I’ve covered yet, despite the protestations of many an Arab on social media."
Is that it Anybody would jokingly say that in a similar situation. I've noticed you haven't mentioned that he was addressing people in Dundee so not trying to impress anybody when he made his 'first and foremost, a football fan' comment? I can't believe a load of grown men are acting like kids because a supporter of Newcastle is going to be writing in their paper. Grow the **** up
Not sure what I was meant to say there, but I only knew it was Dundee because you mentioned it I'm a fiercely proud Geordie, I have always said that. I'm always taking the piss out of Mackems, I ridicule their accent and how they pronounce words such as curry, computer, book and school. My Mackem mates also give it back to me in bucket loads. I wouldn't dream of trying to put a Mackem out of work though, because he had got a job on Tyneside, after I had seen him having loads of banter about us. This is one where as a Geordie, I'm taking the high ground over the Mackems.
I know what you are saying about someones job. It is not nice to call for someones head but what I mean by quoting his goodbye to Dundee is that he knew the potential sh*tstorm was likely so why apply? Thats why I say its his own fault - also there is banter between us and them but some of the stuff he was saying goes beyond banter for me. But as always its a question of opinions
That's the bottom line, for me. I'd rather a gang of loads jumped me outside of work, than cost me my job. I'd rather go home to my wife and kids, with two black eyes and a wage slip, rather than looking like a million dollars and signing on the dole. When he left Dundee, I don't believe he would have been aware of these facebook messages surfacing, otherwise he would have deleted them. He said something that was completely innocent and even told people in Scotland that football comes first and foremost, for him. Maybe I'm defending him because people have jumped to my defence when my backs been against the wall from a marauding crowd, I don't know. I would just be happy to be man enough to accept his explanation and give him a chance. If he ****s up once he has started his job, then he's on his own. Each to their own, though.
I suppose when you think about it it is a lesson to us all - be carefull what you write on social media/forums etc as it can come back to bite you on the arse
That Burnley striker has been caught out. He was wishing gay people dead, and said disgusting things about a suicide attempt. It was from about 4 years ago when he was a non league player.
I have no problem with geordies..After all we have loads of them that support Sunderland. also have very little problem with Mags who give us **** on social media. However I do have a problem of a mag who has give us the worst **** imaginably now being the main SAFC writer in a Sunderland paper. This is unacceptable and I will not rest until he is out of his job.
****ing massive period, I couldn't give two ****s If the bloke writing stories in the MEN was a massive Liverpool fan cos I never read the crap they write, some people are not happy unless they've got something to moan about.
We are all the same at the end of the day. I just don't agree with putting somebody out of work. People on here have been happy to give it big over Newcastle, but as soon as they get it back, the toys come out of the pram. If you give it, then you have to be prepared to take it.
I am ****ing hammered by the way, no offence intended to anybody in particular with my post. Interesting stories from tonight, I'll share when I'm not so tired. Night all.
I went to bed, but as soon as my head hit the pillow I smelt fatty from last night and I started giggling like a daft ****. I got up after 15 minutes, waste of time trying to sleep when I'm like this.
