Nugents goals against Middlesborough, Derby (2nd) and Forest were pure class and hit first time. All pure instinct finishes
.... and the 3 or 4 he missed against Wolves were pants .... I'm not saying he is not a good player Proud, not at all, but he only really ever had one 'prolific' goalscoring season and got his one England cap off the back of it ... ... the fact Nigel has bought Wood when he already had Nugent says more than I ever could on the point - I don't think Nugent like the role of 'main striker' ... he is far better when the main responsibility for hitting the net is someone elses..
Nigel didnt bring in Wood because of Nugent. He brought him in because Vardy hasnt lived up to what we hoped he would. Since signing for us Nugent has scored 29 goals. Not bad for someone who you say isnt prolific
Robin Van Persie has already got 20 for Man United in half a season ...... Michu has scored half of Nuge's total in the same time .... how many have Charlie Austen and Glen Murray scored? Chris Wood has got more than half of Nuge's total this season ... I agree that Nuge's figures are not bad for a supporting striker ...
Comparing Nugent to Robin Van Persie is mental Im not claiming Nugent is prolific but he is still a very good striker and I think he will end the season as our top scorer I think he will hit 20 this season Most of Glenn Murrays goals are through him diving and winning penalties
Comparing Nuge to RVP in the context of establishing what constitutes a 'prolific' goalscorer is not mental - I'm not comparing him as a player If Nuge finishes the season as our top scorer I will take my hat off to him but he now has some seious competition despite his head start ...
RVP in my opinion is the best striker in the world playing for one of the best teams in the world Completely different to Nugent. For Wood to out score Nugent as our top scorer, Wood will have to have scored nearly 30 goals this season. Its totally unfair on him to expect him to out score Nugent having start 12 behind him. I think it will end close but I think Nugent will end as our top scorer. Wood still has to over take Knockaert yet Plus do cup goals count? As Wood scored v Burton
Yet RVP was almost anonymous in the Euros ... and Man United have failed in Europe in recent seasons ... My definition of prolific is someone that scores more often than not when chances come their way ... a player that opposition fans will hate to get the ball in their penalty area .... RVP, Rooney, Chicarito, Aguerro, Dzeko, Ba, Berbatov, Suarez - to name a few in today's game ... if we have someone in on goal in the last minute I would actually prefer it to be Andy King to Nuge if I'm honest ... Cup goals should count as hopefully we wil be taking the competition seriously ...
Nugent's not a natural goalscorer- he's just had to play that role because no one else has. Now Wood's here he can continue to do what he does best- supporting the main goalscorer, creating space and then as a bonus grabbing a few for himself.
I am just glad we have Nugent AND Wood, making this argument pointless! It's really too early to have this debate, as we haven't seen enough of Wood yet, although he has got off to a fantastic start. Nugent has been great throughout the season and a half he's been here, especially considering, until this month, his strike partners have been poor. I think Wood and Nuge will bring the best out of each other now. Who knows, maybe the Hull fans are on to something with the whole Wood not scoring against top teams thing. Maybe Wood will bring quantity against the weaker teams and Nugent will bring quality against the better teams. Either way, if it leads to a result for us, I'm happy!
There isn't really an argument Gangsta - Proud thinks that Nuge will finish as top scorer - I think he will do well if he can keep ahead of Wood - if they both finish with 20 plus then we will probably be promoted ...
