Yes I agreed at the time that a roll of honour was not a good idea...........and that hasn't happened.

Obviously Chris Webb is from the otherside of the negotiating table from your business position, that is clear by what you say, but that should not be a problem for anyone.

Who is to say that as the days go bye that the clubs supporters will not be participating in some way as James Brent feels his way foreward in what is to him a completely new venture.

The Club President is only an honoury position.........and it's nice that a Club supporter has got the job instead of some completely unknown Japanese business........how ludicrous was that.

My objection is that if unions wish to have full time officials, they should be paid for out of union subs.

In the public sector and the quasi public sectors like the Post Office & BT, there are thousands paid from the public purse [i.e. you and me] who get paid salaries for doing nothing but union business. They are also virtually immune from any normal disciplinary procedures.

I believe the cost in local authorities alone has been put at £0.25 billion.......... How many nurses, soldiers etc would that pay for?

I don't think you have to be a right wing reactionary to object to that.

How many nurses.soldiers etc would the obscene profits that Bankers get given pay for ?..........I don't think you have to be a left wing reactionary to object to that either.

Hey an old fashioned right versus wrong argument - all I will say that Chris Webb has NOT set any precedent for 'cosying' up to capitalism.

Remember in the good old days of proper Trade Unionism when most of the most objectional trade union dinosaurs, when eventually retired were elevated to the House of Lords!!!

The usual weasel words were "it's not for me, it's for the Union" this uttere when enrobed in Ermine (or should it be vermin).

    Yea right!!!!!!!!!

I don't see what his paid job has got to do with him being given a title here. Hardly a clash is there. It is one thing to be for or against his appointment on grounds of worthiness to the Argyle cause but not on a political stance of what he may or may not do at a negotiating table. If there is something detremental to Argyle going on there is no way I can see him not shouting about it.

Well Plymborn, you sort of give the answer yourself - private sector pay comes out of profits, which are entirely at the disposal of the companies concerned whilst public sector pay comes out of the taxpayer's pocket.

Now it's pretty clear not many of us think we could do without doctors, nurses, soldiers, binmen etc etc but I'm damn sure we don't need to be paying for thousands of full time union officials.

That isn't to support the bankers who are parasites on real industry as much as anything and in my experience have much nicer suits than any of us but otherwise are pretty useless. But generally, if you make profits you deserve the pay.
