There won’t be ...genuinely surprised and disappointed (not WUM’ing) in any fan on here who doesn’t try to go today. Solly is a great servant of the club.
I was hopeful that Chris Solly would get around 7,000 today. Why have they only opened the Lowers ??? Fans will get soaked.
Testimonials used to be a regular event at Charlton. Arsenal were often very good at providing quality opposition for them. Recently they've been replaced by posher events like expensive testimonial dinners, which I have never attended. The entrance fee always used to be £10, and I wonder if the 50% increase put some fans off? The most recent one was for Paddy Powell (was it his second one?), for which about 3,500 turned up, which I thought was disappointing. Let's hope the weather doesn't put too many fans off from paying on the day.
I have been of the belief he owes us. I think we have treated him with kid gloves because of his knee/s problem and given him contracts he would not have got elsewhere. However, that does not distract from the fact the geezer is Charlton to the core.
What game did I say was my first game. Wtf do you keep asking about my attendance at The Valley when you know I am boycotting, and want to be miles away from you
Sorry, we are sh1t. Not impressed by Aneke BUT he’s a shining light compared to that midfield Bowyer must be sh1tting his pants.
Unfortunately, sign of things to come. Next week result will be 4.0. Relegated by end of year? Bowyer must earn his corn before the end of the window; but it will still be mission impossible with our so-called owner taking the blame
It sounds as though nothing unexpected happened; There was no new player signing announced Charlton struggled against clearly superior opposition Were well beaten 1-4 Positives? Nobody was injured (EDIT) Scrub that one. DickPlumb says Aneke did his hamstring. Our strongest XI got some more competitive game time and a reality check Negatives? Nothing we did not know about already. Bit too depressing to list them individually. What was the attendance, has it been published yet?
The fans have got very low expectations, that much is clear. They know whose fault it is too, and will not turn on BowJacko if it all goes belly up. Lyle Taylor would be well advised to sign whatever contract is on offer, he won't have anything like the impact in the Championship that he had in L1. By the time he was subbed he had lost interest. We just have to hope that we can scrape together enough points against the weaker teams to finish 21st. If we are serious about signing Harriott Messi it doesn't look promising for incomings in the next 2 weeks.
I posted a long message on ITTV about points expected. In a nutshell, my conclusion was we need absolute minimum 12 wins and 12 draws = 48 points. With a little luck that will be enough to stay up. I listed the positive variable still not known (new players still to come in) and the negative variables (possible departure of Dijksteel and/or Taylor, plus injuries during the season) If we assume those variables will more or less balance out (we get a mixture of good & bad fortune as often happens in real life) then the quality of the team we saw playing Aston Villa today is about the same as what we will have for the first half of this season. Granted the balance will probably be better - new midfielders/forwards, and any injuries being random throughout the squad. So the question is; Can a squad of roughly the same strength (but better balance) as we saw today get 12 wins and 12 draws in the Championship this season?
