We need another ball playing centre back to cover Colo, not another battering ram in the air. What would be the point having Taylor, Williamson and Samba who are all beasts in the air then if Colo got injured we'd have no balance. Not to mention he's over 26, so definitely not happening.

A bit of desperation, considering we only have Colo and Williamson?

Also Taylor being out for the season, I would definitely like to see Samba here, he is also better then Williamson.

Then what next season though? We have no balance. Williamson's doing fine, I think a younger player who wouldnt mind sitting on the bench for now would be a better idea. Samba just adds to what we already have, a younger, different kind of centre back is what we need.

Then next season, we actually have some depth in defence. I would want the unlikely to happen though, Samba and a younger player.

Colo, Taylor, Samba, Williamson and the younger player.

That would be nice too, given how injury prone Saylor/Williamson both are. I'm not expecting us to sign an over 26 though.

Don't think even City have 5 CB's. Still got to work to a 25 man squad, that would be 20% of it CB's.

Can't see us going for anyone like Samba or Alex, as much as I would like to have them in the side, they're only going to move for a 1st team place. Saylor and coloccini are our obvious first choice players with Williamson as back up. We're needing someone to compete with Williamson but someone who's up and coming, so wouldnt moan at having to wait for his chance.

Were just not up to the standards of say Chelsea, Man Utd, City, etc... Where they can have huge experience and quality on the bench.

I think the defender we bring in will be a young guy from the lower leagues or some up and coming prospect we've been scouting.

Yeah, Pardew/ Ashley were stupid to go into the season with only 3 CB's, two of them injury prone.

Same, but I would like the board to make just this one signing of someone over 26.

Spending most of our budget on a centre back isnt my idea of fun in this window. Willo doesnt deserve to be dropped. And come next season, who will be in the first team? Will Saylor be dropped also...?

Get a decent defender for £2mil-ish. Get Andy Carroll back on loan as well. :emoticon-0105-wink:

I'm more than happy with Williamson and Colo for the rest of the season. We need cover, and I agree with those saying that an up and coming young CB should be a higher priority.

Samba is a decent defender, but at £7/8m it ain't going to happen. No chance whatsoever.

We need another CB but not Samba or Alex, these are the kind of signings we might have made 4-5 years ago.

IF he was on a free and wages were reasonable then maybe, but otherwise not worth the risk.
High wages and no sell on value in the long run, plus you'd need to move Colo or Willo to slot him into the team to keep him happy.

So a no goer for me.

Defo need a first choice defender IMO - whatever we think of Steve Taylors abilities and how he should be in the team if you look at his injury record over the past 2/3 years its not the best. If Colo were to pick up an injury now we would be much more vulnerable...

He would be great, but too old fo MA, plus QPR will pay more wages.

Just read that Samba is making noises about possible PSG interest .. if he's leaving Blackburn, and not coming here .. then out of the country with you, away from any rivals <ok>
