That is true Haysey, very interesting article it was too. What I love about Slater is the fact that he spent the whole summer researching the history of Charlton, a real gesture and something I believe each player coming to the club should do (as a number of us agreed in a thread last week).
In the summer we lost a number of players on Championship salary levels (Elliott, Semedo, Racon, Youga) so taking them off the books plus the Jenkinson money freed up cash for the influx of players we've brought in. Any manager would have built a decent L1 squad with the finances available, but it is generally felt that CP bought well. Cherry picking (no pun intended!) the best of L1 meant we also damaged our smaller rivals in the division (harsh but true), and the salary levels we're paying these signings, while much higher than before are still well down on what the Championship players were on.
good points killer, anyone else think the squad with 1 or 2 additions of course in particular a striker, may have the potential to do a Norwich and achieve back to back promotions? as Southampton may also do as well
I think that momentum is everything - however, its how long you can sustain it - look at Brighton, suddenly they have come off the rails.
I think its extremely disappointing when you see Andy Flower getting an OBE for his work for Cricket. What about Chris Powell's efforts for Football not to mention his time spent as PFA Chairman
Sorry Blackadder I've seriously got to disagree here, yes we've had money to spend but its not the Chairman's money. The only reason we've been able to spend is because of the £1m we received from Carl Jenkinson and for smaller clubs like us thats how you should get success i.e. produce Youth and if you have to sell them on... I know John Ward @ Colchester said after their 2-0 defeat that they'd love to have the money we had this summer..... well....maybe you should build from the bottom up.
because Rob Elliott left big shoes for him to fill. Id say he left him a big jersey and big shorts to fill
No fans favourite? You haven't heard about my man crush on Dale Stephens then . Bloomin love it when he's on the ball, exactly the kind of player we have missed in recent seasons.
If Powell stays around at Spurs and they do join the ESL, at least he'll have a pot to p*ss in. But he won't be getting knighted any time soon.
