I'd to see Hughton have a good look at him in the first part of pre-season, and make a call then. If he's good enough, then he needs to integrate with the squad, if he isn't, then loan him out to the championship. At the end of the season, if we're still in the PL and he hasn't set the world alight in the championship, sell, but if we get relegated, he could be a useful player at championship level, and an immediate replacement for whichever striker currently on our books decides he'd rather stay in the PL than with us.
this. If he can produce in pre-season, give him him shot. He played a few at the start of the season just gone no? Go for some of that again. Otherwise, ship him out until January and try again! Just out of interest, what happened with him in Wymondham?
Apart from a lack of pace, I think he has ability. But I somehow think he has an attitude as well. He's never going to get any faster but maybe CH can change his attitude and I think he would be a good squad member.
Basically he got involved in fisticuffs and was charged with assault. Not often I disagree with you Redruth but do you really want him filling up a place in the limited squad of 25? If he is in then someone else has to drop out.
I wouldn't want him to deprive a squad place, no. Not the Chris Martin we know anyway. I just think he did/does have talent and some people might think I'm stupid but he did at one stage remind me of Teddy Sheringham.
Here's an update - http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11709/7904765/Martin-not-looking-for-move Seems like he wants to try and fight for his place in the squad. Good for him!!
My reading of this is that it is just a question of CH wanting to have a look at him before making any decision -- as he has said about all the players. Martin's agent is obviously trying to keep the pot boiling that's all, as witness phrases like "at the moment" and "it could all change in a couple of weeks".
He assaulted someone at a fancy dress party in Morley St Peter. It's alleged he went as Joey Barton. Not one for me, I'm afraid.
Maybe use him as well as Crofts as a part of any offer we make for Snodgrass? I reckon he's Colin's type of player.
at 23, chris martin really needs to be showing massive signs of improvement to be getting in our first team. i don't see him being able to make such strides and i think his time is up. a move to the championship would be good for him
Martin should get a chance. The clock is ticking on his contract and he's older and wiser This could be the moment it all comes together.
Evidence beefy? Seems to me he gets on better away from his home stamping ground. A permanent move away would be best for him.
Got a kid now. Not been in trouble in since "robin hood-gate" knuckled down while on loan at crystal palace You've got to remember Martin had a big problem and was sent out on loan as a kid He knuckled down then and came back a different player, I hope lightning can strike twice But people do have a massive problem with him and it's nothing to do with football. I like to detach myself from the footballers private lives where possible and analyse their football abilities clinically. They're just bits of meat to me lol Chris Martin is probably just a player that is always goin to need a kick up the arse every so often. Shouldn't be a problem to deal with, he's not disruptive to the squad, I think he's generally well liked. He probably doesn't deserve a chance, but I'd give him a chance just on gut instinct But it's hughtons call, he's forgotten more than I'll ever know and I'll go with his decision.
you speak sense beefy. personal opinion is he has probably reached the end of the line at norwich but hughton will assess him and may be able to get the best out of him. he's been more frustrating than many players we've had because you know he's got tonnes of ability. i do feel he lacks pace and focus and unfortunately, he doesn't quite have the guile to get by without those traits. i just feel he performs well in the championship for a reason - that's his level
, you make a case for him beefy. Re. separating the person from the player, IMO that only serves to perpetuate the idea that talent is an excuse for loutish behaviour, or worse in some cases.
Nothing personal Supers, but I would so love to see you and others proved wrong. Simply for 2 reasons. 1. Would be good to see 'local' boy do it at top level. 2. If he does make it, it will save few million to spend on other areas of the team. Whether he does make it or not though, is down to CH and Martin himself.
