This is my issue with Chris Hughton. I really like his success in this league and will no doubt support him. However the last time we all got excited with a manager that a majority of fans wanted was SOD. And we all know how that turned out. Before people say he never had the money etc, I know but it was soo boring to watch, and he did bring in a few players.
The latest on Hughton This was published in the newspaper this morning but we haven’t uploaded it to the site as, essentially, the story hasn’t moved on that much from yesterday. Hughton was scheduled to have talks and he’s had talks with some finer details needing to be ironed out. But, tl;dr, it’s looking good. Chris Hughton has moved a step closer to becoming the new head coach of Bristol City after holding talks with the club, Bristol Live understands. As reported yesterday, Hughton is now the Robins’ No1 target to succeed Lee Johnson following his sacking almost three weeks ago. Betting markets had suspended all odds on who will become the next City boss by Thursday afternoon, although a report from Talksport claiming Hughton had agreed to take over is believed to be inaccurate. Hughton is interested in the position – having turned down six different job since he left Brighton & Hove Albion in May 2019 – but, as of Thursday evening, no agreement was in place. City have moved quickly to try and secure their man having been knocked back by Rangers boss Steven Gerrard, with Hughton the overwhelming favourite among Robins fans ever since Johnson’s departure on July 4. Hughton has considerable Championship pedigree having managed 208 regular season games in the division and has led Newcastle United and, most recently, Brighton & Hove Albion to automatic promotion as well as reaching the play-offs with the Seagulls and Birmingham City. City finished the 2019/20 season on Wednesday with a flat 1-1 draw against Preston which left them in a disappointing 12th and seven points off their pre-season target of the top six. It’s that failure that ultimately cost Johnson his job and will be the immediate expectation of Hughton, should he be confirmed as City’s new head coach. There will also be a focus on individual player development, and bringing through the raft of young players who have now returned to the club after impressive loan spells, such as Liam Walsh, Taylor Moore, Joe Morrell and Max O’Leary. A new head coach’s presence is required in BS3 sooner rather than later due to the number of decisions that need to be made around players’ contracts. Midfielder Korey Smith, defender Ashley Williams and goalkeeper Niki Maenpaa will be out of contract soon, after signing short-term extensions in May to complete the campaign. The future of top-scorer and Player of the Year Famara Diedhiou and assist-leader Niclas Eliasson will also need to be established, as both have 12 months remaining on their contracts and may have to be sold if they don’t extend. City confirmed on Thursday evening that loanees Benik Afobe (Stoke City), Filip Benkovic (Leicester City) and Pedro Pereira (Benfica) have returned to their parent clubs.

Something not right here i reckon he has not accepted hence the move to interview elsewhere. All i will say is i would expect a world class coach if Hughton does not get it.Karma comes to mind with the Gerrard fiasco
What credentials does Karma have to manage at Championship level? I'm sure Lansdown and Ashton are taking your expectations into account
You don’t know what’s happened, has it occurred to you that we may of offered him the role but it’s him holding out to see what else is available?
I find the hysteria around Hughton quite embarrassing and tinpot to be honest. I can understand why he may be some peoples preferred candidate because he has some success at this level but he is not the new Messiah there are other suitable candidates out there as well
You should of seen his meltdown when Cotts was employed. We had constant get ready ready for hoof ball comments.
