You read different things to me then!! Most Norwich, Brighton and Newcastle fans when i woke them up said his football was dreadful
I I'm one of the people that ceased to a to go early doors of Junior's reign, never renewed mine or Mrs Wiz's season ticket, I would be a liar if I said I didn't miss it but there is no regrets about not going, I hope we get Hughton, I think he has got a lot of class and is the right character for the job.
Sources now claim Lansdown and Mark Ashton have accepted Gerrard isnt going anywhere and the board are currently negotiating personal terms with Hughton. Do you think Hughton could be the man to get us over the line for a promotion push?
If there's any truth in the latest update then I think Hughton fits the brief and has the experience. We'd probably all settle for a season of boring football if it gained promotion. Gerrard would have brought a lot of 'celebrity' to the club, but I can't blame him for not wanting a job at a Championship club.
I will go when I can RR but I have taken on new obligations since giving up football (Bolthole in Cornwall) and other interests, if conditions prevail I will try hard for season tickets for the two of us but I do have a life now outside of football, purely a personal choice.
Arguments -discussions yes and that is what makes forums interesting-would be strange if we all had the same views.
Marti Hobbs please log in to view this image I'm Leeds but like talking football generally. If I was Bristol Hughton is streets ahead of Gerrard. The only thing I would say about Gerrard is that with his Liverpool connections he could get some decent kids in like Brewster on loan. But even so Hughtons record at Championship level is second to none
City willing to pay Gerrard £2.5m a year - report Three days ago there were (totally unconfirmed and baseless) rumours floating around that City were unwilling to meet Chris Hughton’s £1m salary requests. Given no formal talks have taken place with the Hughton camp, not sure how that slice of information can be true, but anyway ... Football Insider are now reporting that the Lansdown family are willing to pay Steven Gerrard a rather considerable £2.5m a year to leave Rangers for the Robins. We’re not in a position to confirm that story but, as we reported yesterday, he is their main target and getting someone like Steven Gerrard costs a fair bit. Of course, should Gerrard decide to move south - whether it be City or another club - it’ll be for more than just money given his desire to manage in the Premier League. However, that size of financial carrot should certainly help negotiations, given his attachment to Rangers and the fact he’s only two years into the job, and we wait and see what the 40-year-old’s decision will be.
My take exactly. I want to see City play in the Premiership and hopefully when I'm still fit enough to go and see them down at Ashton Gate. Yes, I love to see 'pretty' football, but more importantly (for me) I want us to dine at the top table. It's an embarrassment to the city of Bristol that we haven't had a team in the top flight since we were last there under Alan Dicks - almost 40 years - a complete generation of people have only seen us languishing in League 1 for most of the time since then (one of the reasons that I don't feel LJs tenure has been too disappointing overall). Bring on all the scruffy 1-0 boring wins, hoofing forward to a big Centre Forward (if that's Hughton's style??) I don't care as long as it gets us promoted. I wouldn't want it longer term, but one season I'd be happy with it provided it got us up. (Actually, I seem to remember both Brighton and Newcastle playing rather NICE football under Hughton, the year they got promoted??)
If that £2.5m salary rumour for Gerrard is true then that is absolute madness. I'd get excited if Gerrard was our manager but why on earth would you offer that sort of money to someone who is so unproven? If it was Pochettino I'd understand!
Some players in the Championship probably earn more than that and often delivery very little, if anything.
A lot of other clubs and fans also held LJ in high regard, shame many on here did not. Managers, like players, will do well at clubs and not so well at others, that is just the way it is in football.
You’ve not heard the rumours then regarding next season? The likelihood is ST holders will be allowed back sooner than those who are not with social distancing rules. So the likelihood of people who have not bought yet will lose out. I think it works out between 10 and 12 thousand. And that figure is already reached.
Lansdown and Bristol Sport would be looking at what he brings in. With Leeds going up Sky will love a Steven Gerrard club and play more often. With that brings more revenue along with sponsorship deals. What I read is Hughton wants 1.3 million a year as well, but I don’t know how people would know that. This is more about putting City on the map rather than the club to fill in the last 5 minutes of the highlight show.
