Hi all

I happened to come across an old Leeds United photo and a face I remember was that of " Chris Crowe" if I remember correctly he was an inside forward ( actually inside right), he played in the late 50's poss even the early 60's, he left the club for a couple of years to do his "national service", he was capped for England either the under 21's or the "B" squad, I remember he was at one time Leeds most valuable star, he was transferred to Wolves for about £15,000.
All this is from memory, so I may have got a few things wrong, I was wondering if anyone else rembers him and if they know what happened to the lad.

I am a older fan and a Bristol City Supporter,I had the pleasure of watching Chris Crowe and can tell you he was pure class,good luck to him and thankyou Chris for your class and the enjoyment you gave us 60's Bristol City folk...
 
Although a Spurs fan,I too remember Crowe.Very good player.But in those days Wolves would,and did, give any one a game to remember....including my team!
I think that Mick's time is running out! A replacement?Ahhhhh!Hughes perhaps........?
 
Thanks for your reply on Chris Crowe Bigsmithy9, your comments on Mick McCarthy are possibly right but he is a fighter and I believe an honest man , he's been around the block and with his knowledge and experience will bounce back and be back at the top if not with Wolves, it would not be long before he is snapped up by another club.
 
I remember Chris very well he was a very promising player but like a lot at the time gradually got himself in a rut we needed the money so we sold him to BLACKBURN I thought for £25kwhen is was about 24 . Remember we went through a lot of so called managers so bad were thgey that they spent 10k on a fullback from Town who was playing for town reserves that night when they went to watch someone ray Wilson played instead of this boy so the scout told Leeds that he had found a steal yes you can guess the rest .It wasn,t until he played they realised they had been duped by Town!
 
cHRIS WAS OUR LEADING GOAL SCORER PLAYING INSIDE RIGHT and was replaced by John Hawksby who promised but unfortunatley didn,t deiver.

My message to Leeds18 was to congratulaatehim on the piece he did about the cretin .I have just been watchig the Borgas and I,m sure they are related to our great leader worth watching
 
Chris Crowe entertained us at Ashton Gate for a couple of seasons. But as we were perpetually struggling at the bottom of Div 2 he did not shine as much as earlier in his career.
Remember one game against Bristol Rovers; CC was outside right and was met with several slide tackles from Rovers left back Alex Munro. On each occasion CC was bundled all over the place. About the fifth time, Chris stopped dead in his tracks as Munro took off. Result was Munro smashed into the concrete bench seats set just in front of the perimeter wall and was carried off with a double fractured leg.

"Crowe began his career with Leeds United, signing as an amateur in October 1954, and making his first team debut on 20 October 1956 in a goalless draw at Burnley. He quickly became a regular in the Leeds side and made 98 appearances in total during four seasons, scoring 27 times.

He lost his place in the side after having to undertake National Service in early 1960, during which time the club found his understudy Billy Bremner to be more than capable. Crowe was sold to Blackburn Rovers in March 1960 for £25,000, where he played for almost two years.

In February 1962 he joined Wolverhampton Wanderers for £28,000. He scored on his club debut, a 3-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur on 3 February 1962, and managed 7 goals in his 14 appearances in the remainder of the campaign. He scored 11 in the following season as Wolves finished fifth in the First Division. He spent just two full seasons at Molineux, but notched 24 goals in his 85 appearances.

He moved to Nottingham Forest in August 1964, for £30,000. He remained at Forest for two-and-a-half seasons before signing for Bristol City in January 1967.

He headed abroad to join Australian club Auburn in May 1969, but returned to England just four months later with Walsall, where he spent the 1969-70 season, his final before retiring from the game. He briefly came out of retirement in 1971 though, to represent non-league Bath City.

He died in May 2003, aged 63"
