Ok,a little harsh i grant you but I'm getting tired of supporting people just because they are the public eye. There are a lot more deserving cases around if you feel the need to get sympathetic.

I seem to have got out of bed the wrong side this week.

Naxos, I think the response by everyone has been pretty good towards Chopra and understandably so, I agree with it.

But it does annoy me though how some people are inconsistent with their support of people just because they are in the public eye. I'm not sure many people would have the same sympathy for someone ordinary on the street with the same situation, they would just call them a waster. At the same time it can work the other way, as you have shown, because people are in the public eye they are easy to critisize, especially footballers who are on ridiculous amounts of money. Whereas an ordinary person who has similar dilema's to a footballer in a different line of work it would not be critisized, it would be "they are doing it because its best for them and their family", this perspective is often lost when people think about footballers.

I think your response was a little unreasonable and there will always be more deserving cases out there for nearly everthing, we could have extreme examples, think of all those people in Turkey affected by an earthquake, they should be getting our sympathy not Michael Chopra but this is such a populist thing to say and out of context. Just because he is a footballer on good wages and its not the end of the world does not mean we shound not show any sympathy.

I have symapthy for Chopra but lets have it right and say that "normal" people who have the same "demons" get very little support at all. There are plenty of people that share Chopra's gambling addiction who have lost everything including their nearest and dearest and they get little in the way of public sympathy for their plight. Chopra has done the right thing in recognising his problem but I feel more sympathy and angst for those poor souls that have slipped under the radar and are sleeping rough as a result of their addiction.

Walky,I've been that bored today that I counted my Euro copper collection.

    E43.25 in small coins.

If eighty million Germans are as frugal,or lazy when it comes to small change,as me then we can save Europe.

Hey Naxos the politicians on the continent have been gambling with our money for years and years! They now need a serious case of rehab at our expense! <grr>

Millions of people thrown out of work for the sake of Vanity! Now that's a scandal that requires far more attention than Mr Chopra betting on the gee gees!

    JWM,

the French wanted the Greeks in the Euro because of Plato.

I agree Naxos, all joking aside, I just hope that this crisis in the Eurozone doesn't give way to extreme nationalism and a repeat of the 1930's. It would be a tad ironic if the very institution designed to prevent further conflict in Europe actually percipitated it! <yikes>

Anyhoo back to the football and I think a decent away win tomorrow with Chopra on the score sheet to blow away his demons!

Naxos old boy I'll tell you why it's different.

If Chops has that weight off his shoulders he can still get another 20 or 30 goals this season. It's incredible the positions he gets into and there are games this season where he's wasted a hat-trick of chances you would expect him to put away.

Not only that but the way the club (Evans, Clegg, Jewell) have reacted over this has been first class, not to mention the bonding that's going on between the players.

I'm not the kind of person to be judgemental because we simply don't know what other people have been through and have gone through to make them behave in certain ways. But I will care if one of my colleagues or friends needs support and Chopra is not just a man off the street - he plays for my football club so of course he's gonna get my support on this!

If other people are going through similar things then it's very sad but they're not on my radar.

Full marks to Chops for coming out and laying it all on the line. I can see a lot of positives coming out of this and it tells me we're on the right track as a club if he is no longer carrying on, treading water and making excuses.

It seems to me we are becoming a team and not just a collection of players.

Quite right Hamps, its nice to hear these things coming out of the club, for to many years its been so frustrating over the years and especially this time last year I just didn't really recognise what the club had become, it just felt like any other club!!

Its great now, we've gone back to doing what we do best, having some characters in the team, playing good attacking football and having a family feel back. COYB
