Personally, you can't actually go far wrong at getting the baked potatoes at £5 a shot from near Hamish's.
Gravy / Curry - can’t decide a winner. Some days it’s a curry day. Some days a gravy day. Both equally awesome.
Not just one of others, you can combine them, ie cheesy chips with gravy is amazing, also chips with curry with some mayo. Chips with peas only works with fish as well, and chips with beans is what you get in a ****ty greasy spoon diner.
Curry would be my number one but not as much as in the picture, I only want a bit on the side really. Chips and beans if I'm having it on a plate with other stuff Chips and peas with a fish certainly. We tend to get fish and chips with curry sauce and I get the mushy peas too all to myself as wifey isn't keen. Mayo I've only seen down south and when i worked in Germany (agree with Chaos here) it's the norm. **** OFF with cheese though.
Not just Germany, chips and mayo is an all over Europe thing, they have it in France and everywhere else in Europe. Cos Europe doesn't do chips with vinegar, that's just a British thing.
Curry sauce - ok with pretty much anything - bareback, fish, sausage etc. Probably the go to IF I have a sauce from the on me fish supper (75% of the time it's just mushy peas and a bit of tommy K, if I'm honest). Gravy - only acceptable on bareback chips, or with some meat accompaniment (sausage / pie etc). Traditional style cheesy chips can do one. Anybody ever had poutine? Sublime.... and the only thing that makes me question chips, gravy and cheese! They used to do a version at Hawksmoor that was topped with chicken skin crisps... https://keviniscooking.com/the-ultimate-chicken-poutine/
Curry. It's imperative that the salt and vinegar go on before the curry. Normal amount of salt and lashings of vinegar. I like my chips swimming in curry sauce.. Eating the last few chips is the best bit, all that vinegary curry sauce in the bottom of the tray is delicious. I'll have scrapings if they have them, added before the curry sauce.
