Charlton Athletic travel to the B2net stadium this tuesday night to take on Chesterfield. A bumber crowd of 26,546 saw Charlton take on Stevenage at the weekend a game that saw Morrison score a goal of the season contender and Wright-Phillips finally end his goal drought! Unlike Charlton, Chesterfield lost at the weekend going down 1-0 at Notts County courtesy of a late strike from on loan striker Forte.

The reverse of this fixture at the Valley earlier in the season was Charltons first 'football for a fiver' promotion of the season and saw a crowd of 21,151. Charlton ran out eventual winners by a 3-1 scoreline. The addicks lead the game 2-0 at half time with goals from Hayes and Jackson and never really looked threatened, however Charlton failed to build on the momentum they had gained and seemed to be happy with a 2-0 scoreline. Chesterfield got a lifeline in the 72nd minute when Leon Clarke (now a charlton player) went down in the box under a Michael Morrison challenge. A penalty was awarded and tucked home by Chesterfield's Danny Whitaker. Chesterfield tried to push on for an equaliser but never really looked like scoring. The points were made safe in the 92nd minute when Wright-Phillips headed home from a Wagstaff cross.

Chesterfield have had a difficult season in league one and the current holders of the league two title find themselves rooted to the bottom of league one with 27 points from their 32 games. However they recently beat Sheff Wednesday at home and have won 5 of their last 8 games in all competitions, a run in which saw them through to the JPT final which is sure to be a great day out at Wembley for the spireites

Another great match thread. I'm in agreement with your team, 100% - I would say if they intend to leave out BWP that it surely has to be for Haynes. I wasn't a fan of CLarke before he joined, and I haven't seen anything (in his very brief) spell with us that suggests I will change my mind. I hope CP doesn't look too much in to the fact he spent time on loan there this season.

I also think with Stephens and Kermo linking up in ''the hole'' should provide themselves, but more importantly, BWP with plenty of chances. We know the goal is coming, but I'm not going to predict this week as I think I jinx him with my pre game bets.

Tough game, they have started to pick up, but top vs bottom should always go one way if your serious about being champions. It will be a professional display, not a return to the goal glut of November. 1-2.
 
Hopefully your good work won't be wasted with another postponed game.

Personally, I'd perhaps go for a squad of;

Some may disagree with the choice of Haynes alongside BWP, but to be honest, our football has become a lot uglier at times since Kermorgant has been introduced (don't get me wrong, I think he's a brilliant player, one of my favourites, but the rest of the team constantly hoof the ball up to his head or for him to volley). Playing Haynes alongside BWP will;
a) hopefully force the defenders and midfielders to play the ball along the floor to our strikers, and to provide plenty of through balls
b) Haynes pace will distract the defenders, freeing up space for our 'poacher' BWP to get himself into perfect positions.
c) considering the previous example, who will defenders attempt to double up on? 14 goal man BWP, or the blisteringly fast and dangerous Haynes?

If the game plan doesn't work, Kermit is on the bench to revert back to our default 11, if either of our wingers get injured then Haynes can drop back to the wing and Kermit can go up front, or else Pritchard can come on. If any of our centre-mids get injured, theres the choice of Pritchard and Hughes on the bench, as well as Jacko on the pitch. If Solly gets injured, Hughes will do okay covering, if Wiggins gets injured, JJ can drop back, CB cover in Cort. Sorted :)
 
Pitch Inspection tomorrow before the team travel up... Dunno why but I cant see this one going ahead which will be a shame because I've a ticket
 
Nice thread again, Belvedere - unfortunately I fear it may be in vain for the second time.

The temperature in Chesterfield is projected to fall to -6 degrees on Friday night, which will pretty much be curtains, as Saturday will be close to freezing point all day.

This, of course will be a serious pain, as we're due to to play MK Dons on Tuesday night and they'll have had the advantage of an extra game in between.

Damned nuisance as well for the 1300 or so Addicks who've bought tickets and won't fancy the trek to Derbyshire on a Tuesday/Wednesday night.

I remember the 73/4 game at The Valley well, as it had the most remarkable finish. We were 3-1 up and cruising and Chesterfield were down to 9 men (sub used, 1 sent off and 2 carried off) and in the last 15 minutes or so, they went totally bonkers, attacked us non-stop, scored twice and had a couple cleared off the line - great comeback.

If it is played on Saturday, and I do hope it is, think it will be a narrow win - 2-1.

I'd love to see that side start, WeWant. And as you say, as long as CP can go back to the 'default 11', at a moment's notice I think it's worth trying.

Great thread again Belv. First time I've ever been happy to lose a job! Suspect it's in vain again though! If it does go ahead I quite like the BWP/Haynes idea. Kermit is a total star but I would like us to get some real movement in up front, especially after the Clarke experiment the other night which really didn't work.

I think I must be the only Charlton fan who would prefer if the match was postponed to a Tuesday or Wednesday night. It feels fierce cold up here. I'd have to buy a hat if the match is on.
 
A couple of inches of fresh snow overnight and icy conditions across the East Midlands. It won't rise above 1 degree today, and down to -5 tonight.

It's touch and go for this one, and I'm not just talking about Ponders' hotel antics.
