Could put it down as ‘one of those days’ but we have far too many of them. The common thread is creating quantity but not quality of chances. Our players need to stop snatching at chances and take their time to make sure.
McKenna needs to go back to the drawing board with the attacking side of the game or we’ll end up in the play offs at this rate.
Unbelievable, so many chances go begging. How often do we throw away a lead. As others say, back to the drawing board.
We’ve ridden our luck and won by the odd goal when the game should have been out of sight enough times. We need to be far more ruthless.
Very frustrating but credit to Cheltenham defence who put in a shift and a half worthy of Remembrance Day!
We now have to add Dom Ball & TJJ to our growing injury list. Thought we really missed Lee Evans today. Humphrys did ok but doesn’t quite have Evans eye for a pass. Ladapo had 1 of his not going days today -seems a bit inconsistent and as has been said previously, when Harkness doesn’t score (which he certainly should have done today) he doesn’t bring much else to the team. Morsy and Leif Davies were the 2 best players for me today. To end on a sour note, I am disappointed to report that Portman Road was not silent for the period of rememberance. Baffles me how certain people can’t keep quiet for a couple of minutes
We of course outplayed the Robbins for 90% of the game and had 29 shots, of which 4 on target and 1 goal. The final pass across goal were much better today, a feature many have criticised. Our finishing was abysmal though. We need an old fashioned a big grab a goal poacher up front. Our main weakness is we have lots of forwards but no lethal striker. I enjoyed the game and credit to the Cheltenham stout if boring defense, and Lady Luck, as block after block and tug shirts was the order of the day. Good thing is Plymouth didnt extend their lead, but those below us are winning games, whereas we are playing pass the parcel, here's a gift and a point. Bring on the January window. Open yer cheque book gamechanger.
We had more than 60 shots v Lincoln and Cheltenham and scored once ! Jackson has been here 3 years and cant make the grade and score regularly which was why he was signed in the first place, Ladapo will score the odd goal in 7 or 8 attempts which is nowhere near good enough if we are serious about promotion, Burns, Chaplin, and Harness are a shadow of what they were a few weeks ago, i just hope Ahadme will be the answer to our scoring problems otherwise its business in January which McK said yesterday there would be.
I’m not convinced it’s a personnel issue. So much of what we’re doing is right but our striking is atrocious throughout the entire team. I think it’s the shoot on sight policy. In the Fabregas era at Arsenal they were often accused of trying to walk the ball in the net and there’s a middle ground somewhere but we’re not close to finding it at the moment. We need to take a moment, take a touch, chip it, curl it instead of blasting it. If our shot count reduces as defenders have more chance of making a tackle so be it. Doing the same thing every week and expecting a different end product is the definition of madness.
So whats are roll call of injured players now? A decent team of 11 by all accounts. Is it just us that are losing so many, perhaps 'cause we are being targeted?
