Just for the record, it’s hard to overstate this, but comparing a virus that’s killed hundreds to the biggest killer of humans in an event of the 20th century (Spanish Flu) should only be seen one way. That is that this virus is pretty small fry in comparison to flu and it’s variants.

Anyone who’s been to the festival for and hasn’t come back with some sort of bug has never been to the festival. The problem with these big events is, if a couple of people do catch it then the forty thousand people who attend each day will have to be traced. This is logistically impossible. You’ve got high profile people attending also. I expect it to be cancelled along with all large events including football. I hope I’m wrong.

it is just a question of when this escalates - at the moment the UK hasn't seen hardly any cases and if the festival was this week it would be going ahead.
hopefully it can be contained for at least another week to enable it to go ahead still.

I fully expect all sporting fixtures to be cancelled by the end of this month though.

because once you can't identify where the virus comes from then it can't be contained.
there are now 2 such cases in the UK - and so it is now out there incubating amongst us.

it is just a question of when it takes off.
this is not scaremongering it is stating a basic fact.
hopefully for most of us the virus won't be too bad and it dies out when the weather improves.

I notice no one is saying that going to work could be dangerous. Bloody typical isn't it? Cancel all leisure events but we still have to go to work every ****ing day <laugh>

The average spread per person of this disease looks to be 3 people per infected individual and that is from major urban areas in China.

it is a worry that we don’t know patient 0 in those two cases, but given the resources available to our NHS they could well trace the disease back.

Nass it’s not that’s easy.its about people in the pub on the way to the course, on the bus then at the course restaurants toilets bars leaving the course on buses coaches to all parts of the country trains taxis. There’s no way you could trace it back.

But the same is true for every football match, every form of public transport, every restaurant, every pub. You either stop public life completely or accept the fact that the virus exists, take what precautions you can and be particularly vigilant when it comes to high risk people with pre-existing conditions.

This is the two patients who have already be confirmed, not anything to do with the festival.

I agree I see all football being cancelled. The global economy is dependent on people going to work. The festival although classed as business to me is leisure. It’s a tough one but I trust Dominic Cummings to come up with a solution.

I wonder if come 13.25 next Tuesday afternoon we will still be no further forward in knowing if the meeting goes ahead?!? Will it be a case of, at that time, Mr Johnson, Simon Claisse and a platoon of experts walking onto the course and making a decision at that time. It does make you wonder.

Meanwhile, I do think the chances re ‘a behind closed doors’ Festival increases by the second.

At this present time not even 1% of those tested have come back positive. This equates to about 0.00005% of the population.

We are still in the containment phase and would expect this to continue. I do think though that people still intent on travelling to northern italy (there seems to be people just carrying on with that journey in particular) are being irresponsible.

On the train to Birmingham today..I saw the first person wearing a face mask. He looked a right c**k..

I must admit that there doesn't appear to be any point in cancelling the festival if we are still allowing flights between the UK and Italy.
4 more cases today - all 4 have recently been in Italy.
