I think he was on SAF's shortlist but the rest of the board would have vetoed the appointment had SAF ultimately selected him. The "brand" has become (too) important and whilst Jose guarantees a club short term success, he also guarantees bad publicity. For example, in all his years of creating a siege mentality, did SAF ever actually claim there was a "conspiracy" against his club. Jose's made himself, and by default the club, look ridiculous, particularly as the supposed "conspiracy" is based on several examples of Chelsea players blatantly cheating! Great manager though.
What The Smug One is really complaining about is the fact that refs don't seem to be turning a blind-eye to his players' high-board antics, any more. Worse than the hissy fit hes having while they are currently bottling it. Ashley Young was a terrible diver. United fans wanted him out of the club. However hes gone along way to changing tge way we view him. I very much doubt the same can be said of all 9 professional divers at Chelsea. Probably due to tge extensive training you guys put in to it.
