Absolutely. Wouldn’t make us into world beaters but it would at the very least make us more difficult to beat.
Team Meeting at the Orange Factory CEO - "Good morning everyone, I'm delighted to introduce our new manager, Ivan Martin who will be taking over day to day management of the orange factory" Team - "Good morning Mr Martin" IM - "Good morning. I'm delighted to be here and to announce that from now on we'll be making bananas, because I believe strongly that bananas are the nicest fruit, and far nicer than oranges." Team - "But we make oranges here. We've never made bananas before. We don't know how to make bananas." IM - "Doesn't matter. Bananas are SO nice. From tomorrow we'll only be making bananas" Team - "We don't have anyone here that knows how to make bananas" IM - "Well we'll learn how to make bananas" Team - "Would it not make more sense to make oranges?" IM - "Nope, I'm a banana-or-die style manager" Team - "How about we make oranges, and then a few bananas?" IM - "Bananas" Team - "Can we make oranges until we learn how to make bananas?" IM - "Nope. Bananas" Pretty soon, the orange factory closed after going into administration. It was a sad day.
Which kinda felt like the entire point of sacking Martin and bringing in a new manager in the first place. To bring in another guy who just wants to play his own way regardless of if we have the players for it, regardless of whether it works in this league, regardless of whether it gets any results is just a different brand of insanity. Nobody was expecting a new manager to come in and keep us up. We could all see we didn't have the players AND were already too far gone. BUT there's no way we should be as bad as we are either. I fail to see the point in hiring another manager that is going to come in and fail to be pragmatic. You can't polish a turd, but spray some air freshener and put a peg on your nose.
I am thinking that we could have gone in for a Dyche, Allardyce or Hodgson, but even these experts would not have got a tune out of a busted fiddle...
I agree that the appointment in the first place is on SR and it would seem they didn’t ask the right questions but surely in the current situation most managers would sit back and say ‘this isnt working guys perhaps we need to come up with a plan B’ or something similar. If he had at least given us a bit more fight then maybe people would have a different view but in most areas he’s no better than Martin (maybe worse?) Perhaps that’s why Rusk has been promoted? If I recruit someone that turns out to be ****, yes I would accept some of the responsibility but not all of it. Bottom line here for me is that the blame should lie on both SR and the manager (with the players taking their share too). I am clinging to the hope that finally they have got things right with Spors and that he appoints the right manager in the summer (decisively and quickly). If that doesn’t happen I’m with Lincs
I agree, to be in the conversation for worst ever PL team, it's **** players, **** manager and thusly **** recruitment and leadership from above, they all get blame! On the Rusk thing, all that's happened is that his role has been made official. He's been working with Juric on the first team since Juric came in. Sadly, I wouldn't expect any changes in our performances due to this announcement.
Ah ok didn’t know that about Rusk. The tiny bit of hope I had was in the toilet anyway, and now it’s been flushed
Do these managers even exist? Seems very outdated now that a manager sets up differently in games depending on the opposition.
I think you have to be pragmatic at least, or you get found out. Just like RM did and it hasn’t taken others long to find Jurić out. Even Pep is finding that his style is only possible with the very best players and when a few get injured even he has been.
I wonder if the Rusk thing is as reported though? Seems a strange announcement IF to just make official at this stage? I’d have thought there would be more serious issues to content with? I think there’s more too it.
Didn't even realise we were playing until this morning such is my apathy to the whole thing at this stage
