We haven't won a single game this season after going behind. We've also conceded late on multiple occasions and lost.
Agree looks like season over. I thought Miggy looked more comfortable out there which we might need as seems Barnes might be struggling. Gordon is a big miss though.
I’m done with this season. It’s been quite draining. I need the summer to recharge after watching this dross for months on end.
He was injured early on in the game by the corner flag and allowed to continue. I'm getting tired of people absolving Howe of any responsibility for the the management of his squad and the fitness and conditioning of the players.
Frustrating evening at the office. The defending is a really cause for concern. Something needs to change there and quick. Gordon injury is a big issue as Barnes was no where to be seen again. Miggy and Murphy until the end of the season...
I think we are fine going forwards tbh, since the turn of the year (last 12 games) we've scored twice on 10 occasions so the attacking output is ok but we've conceded 24 in the same time - an average of 2 a game - you can't rely on an attack to outscore teams every week and sometimes just need a clean sheet and a scrappy 1-0 win but there's no way we can do that with the defense leaking goals.
I don't see football as attack and defence being separate and more simply the side is dysfunctional in its entirety. The side attacks and defends from back to front. The side attacks and defends and with 3 players that have no ability to hold the ball up it's a significant flaw along with the majority of midfield and the back 4 being incredibly slow. It's going to be important to address these issues in the summer and others, but is the money there and will they just keep buying plodders? The links to Phillips were real and that's alarming. Personally I'd sack Howe at the earliest opportunity if a bigger successful manager wants to join and give him the money this summer. Putting the long term future at the hands of Howe and his nephew will prove disastrous I fear.
I'm sorry but if your manager is consistently picking Burn as a left back, an unfit Botman and persevering with Bruno as a DM then something is wrong. Liverpool have about 5 18 year olds playing, yet we spunk £30m on a 19 year old left back and he can't get a game. The club's just ****ing weird at the moment. Additionally we constantly play without helping the defense. Relying on Joelinton to charge up and down a field isn't a ****ing tactic. Besides I keep hearing excuses trotted out about being better once people are fit - results are still **** regardless. Add to that the fact Gordon's managed to get a soft tissue injury in spite of week long breaks and it's really difficult to see the defense for Howe. You've got Bruno as your DM, when he's just not a DM. Willock is attacking and Longstaff is just plain useless. I've no idea why we couldn't try to shore it up by going 3 CB;s with Schar, Lascelles, Burn and give Botman a break then have Livramento and Hall as LWB. It just seems glaringly obvious - we did it with three left backs on the field vs Man U in the Carabao Cup and haven't seen it since. I don't know what Howe is doing or why. I get he's got the science, the experience, etc., but I genuinely don't understand a lot of it.
Ultimately Newcastle are still operating like a small club with small time players, managers, coaching staff and attitudes. The club is way off. 3 to 10 years ? To win the league she said .. nearly at 3 already and we've barely moved up 3 places. The club was finishing between 10th and 13th for 4 years before this takeover
I agree completely, though clearly not helped by the PL being determined to keep us on a small budget. That said, if Howe hadn't ****ed up the UCL game against Milan we'd have a lot more revenue and exposure. Honestly, his card should have been marked that day and he's done absolutely **** all since then to gain back favour. The Sporting Director appointment will be a big marker for where we go from here, I think.
The decisions on transfers in the summer have proved a collosal failure and Howe has done absolutely nothing well this season. These are the cold hard facts and because of this the club completely failed to capitalise on last seasons once every 20 year finishing position. If the fans credited everything to Howes greatness last season then it is correct to assign blame to him this season... oh wait no it's all been bad luck, Ashworths fault, unlucky fixture lists or any other mental gymnastic available.
Completely agree, prime example was Sterling going through for what should have been their third really. I don't think we had anyone back in our own half bar the back 4 who were all over the place, completely exposed! Think we both said it the other week, 3 at the back is clearly something that should be looked into, Tino and Hall wing backs, Bruno and Longstaff holding, Miggy and Willock in the CAM's playing off Isak just seems the natural choice currently.
This manager is going to change 'NOTHING' He's going to plod along waiting for the club to give him hundreds more millions. He's out there making statements as much as anything else with his refusal to change the left back despite every club from here to timbuktu clearly targeting that area and having repeated success there. I'm sorry, but what does that tell is about this guy and what we will all experience in the future.
Especially when he's avoiding yellow cards.... should be just playing the game. He could've took a yellow before Arsenal away ffs This manager has zero nouse, appalling in game management and is stubborn beyond words.
