If we're to chase Man City, we are going to have keep all of our really good prospects together. NC knows this, we have nothing to worry about. We are Premier League, know one bullies us now.
If he really is as good as he's cracked up to be, we' be mental to accept an offer now and he'd be nuts to sign for a bigger club before making his full debut. The bidders would be bonkers too to pay £4m (albeit in installments) for a kid who's only senior experience is a cameo in the FA Cup. I don't believe this story has legs.
Personally i think £4 million makes good business sense. It's better business sense to sign 3 young prospects for £4 million than one established player from abroad for £12 million (or Leighton baines for £25 million). Especially when you consider the need to comply with the home grown player rules.
If Shaw goes, then I certaintly wont be having a go at Cortese. If players want to leave a club, they will leave! But yourself in Shaw's shoes. I'm a 17 year old boy, and have the current European Champions after me - most likely with a contract offer which smashes my current wage. I'm going to want to go. I may end up regretting it in five years time, when I'm still not in the first-team and have been farmed out on loan to four different football league clubs, but right now I am young and naive. I will want to go.
Nah, the monies great there, but the money is good here. Here I have a chance, I get to see the light at the end of the tunnel at the start of a pitch, I train with people who play. When I've played, I might well follow the money, but while I have money I may well follow the dream. I'm a dreamer, but I also believe.
All the papers seem to think we are open to offers. None of them have picked up on the fact he has signed a pre contract with us and I'd say it's the typical bollocks that they always come up with. Along the lines of the daily fail getting an "exclusive" and all other papers rewording it with the same info.
Not for Saints. Here is a player who could be worth £10-15m and more importantly really enhance our first team over the next 5 years.
Simon Peach‏ #SaintsFC will ignore any bids from #CFC & the like for @Luke_shaw3, I can report. Unlike w/Theo, Bale & Chambo, club will refuse to budge.
It's the upside and downside of the Chamberlain situation as it'll affect us for the next few years. Young players see what he's done, and want to be the next Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, so perhaps they join the Saints Academy. But young players also see what he's done, and perhaps think that they can be the next Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and walk into the lineup of a top four club. Were I guessing, my expectation is that the plan for Shaw reflects that, assuming he's with the club when the season starts (and Cortese's bloody-mindedness suggests he will be, unless Chelsea wants to fork over an insane amount of money)...would imagine that they plan to use him as a reserve, start him in the cups and give him a bench appearance here and there in the autumn to demonstrate that he has a path here, and get him on the radar enough that he perhaps gets an opportunity for real playing time on loan. If he does well, there might be players ahead of him on the depth chart right now, but no one blocking him; I'm a fan of Fox, and like the idea of Buttner, but management will make room if Shaw shows that he is worth making room for.
Luke Shaw will be class, already in the England setup playing for the under 17s. Any one had the thought he could be back up for buttner?, with fox pushed up into midfield.
Oh, we've been small time, Fran. Arguably, right up until three years ago. Thankfully, those days are gone for good.
If Pompey can call themselves a big club, I definately think Saints are massive We all know big things are happening here, but the general footballing world doesn't....hence QPR fans saying why would anyone choose Southampton over them. The truth is somewhere between who the media think we are (relegation material) and who Cortese thinks we are (Champions League/reflection of him).
We have been here with our youngsters many times before and all the same arguments are raised. If Shaw wants to leave, as with Chamberlain, he will leave and it doesn't matter what we think is good for him (or us) or what statements the club issue. Players hold all the power even 16yrs old players.
I was looking at it from the Chelsea perspective only, but turning down £4 million could also end up being a gamble. We can all remember players who never fulfilled their potential.
No they don't! He's on a 3-year contract and he's going nowhere. Even if we were open to selling him, his value will only increase with first-team exposure, we'd be stupid to sell him now.
Chelsea may want him, but probably won't pay more than they think he's worth, whereas Wenger desperately wanted Oxo. As it turned out he was right, he's probably got a bargain. I presume we have a sell on clause written in for Oxo.
