They couldn't really rechristen it the G14 Bully Boys League, though, could they? It all comes down to them that first the teams that finished second in Italy, Spain, Germany, England, France and Holland were allowed in (thus relegating champions of several other countries immediately), and then when that wasn't enough because several of those leagues had more than two G14 members it was expanded to three or four, pushing even more teams out. One thing that gets me, though, is the Premier League's G14 members at the time the format was changed to include second-placed were Man Utd and Liverpool. At that point, Liverpool hadn't even managed to finish second, yet they were (essentially) asking for whichever of Man Utd and Arsenal weren't winning the league at that time to be allowed in.
for the game tonight the only drawback with Terry being Suspended is,if it goes to penalty's he won't be on the field to miss his,we'll have to rely on fat Frank.
An interesting journalistic slant in The Times this morning. In their main editorial - not just in the sports section - they request the nation to support the Chavs because it would 'be a great joke on Spurs not to get CL after their efforts'. Now, I am perfectly prepared to accept that between supporters the banter over today's game and our own thread and temp name change etc is very amusing as no doubt the Chavs and Goons find similar threads on their own boards. But somehow, a national newspaper to advocate this in its feature column is a step too far. OK - minor rant over. just going to dust down my Leiderhosen and have my first stein of the day........ CoYB!!!!
Personally I don’t see any harm in what Spurs are doing, Bayern Hotspurs, ETC .. However it’s quite interesting that I was in a pub yesterday and over heard a group of blokes talking about the same thing, (Spurs supporting Bayern) ........and comparisons were being made to the Scots supporting Argentina during the WC.............it seems patriotism is playing its part as well
Relayer69 is that really word for word what the Times says in the editorial. 'be a great joke on Spurs not to get CL after their efforts'.
Quote: 'And remember, it would be a great joke on Tottenham Hotspur after all their effort' Unquote Leader column - entitled 'feeling blue'
What's the name of the twat journalist who wrote this? I don't suppose he's been brave enough to leave his email address? Just in case he might like a few opposing views!!
Nope - the beauty of an editorial I guess - it is published under the auspices of the newspaper entity and is non-attributable.
Thanks Relayer, but I have to say that reading the whole article, it is tongue in cheek and is taking the piss out of the whole thing. This is a piece for their non football loving readers and while I am not that I am quite happy to go along with ridiculing a competition that is based on pseudo values and fake nationalism. It is not just disrespectful to Spurs it is disrespectful to Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and football and the 'Champions' league in general. That would be fair enough in view of the way money is removed from the pockets of fans, the only trouble with it is that it comes from the Times. Stones and Glasshouses come to mind.
Taking the piss is fine if you are *funny*. That article isn't funny (I know I'm biased - surely even a neutral wouldn't think so?)
