I went to watch Sheff U v Yeovil the other night. Im working close by. I was talking to a few Sheff U fans who reckon he wont get done. He looked an ideal type of forward for us and formed a good partnership with Cresswell. Then James Beattie came on, looks fit and raring to go. I think either of these two would be an ideal spearhead for our promotion push. Surely we can offer Beattie more than the blades without breaking our wage structure? Danny Wilson had them playing some good stuff albeit against a struggling Yeovil. Both wide men kept whipping in crosses all game long. Quinn the wide left midfield is the smallest frailest player i think i have ever seen but has a peach of a left foot. If we are talking of Fuller surely Beattie is a cheaper option?
Beattie has scored something like 1 goal in 2 years and Evans is on some sort of criminal charge isnt he?
If he wasn't in court for rape in March, he'd the ideal candidate for us. When we played them on Boxing day last season, we were 2-0 up and totally cruising. They couldn't find a way past us at all (a problem we often have when losing at home) suddenly from nowhere someone (think it might have been that Quinn) crossed it from somewhere near the halfway line to Evans and bang. 2-1. They were back in the game just from one pass. If you have someone like Evans who can beat big defenders to the ball in the air, you have a whole new dimension to your play. It makes any attacks that end in crosses so much more effective and it also means you can cross from anywhere you like without working it to the byline first. If we had this option teams would be much more worried about 'parking the bus' on us when a goal up, because they'd know if they give us chance in deep areas we'd just pop it in the box and score. But he is in court for rape in March, so it's all academic.
James Beattie didn't want to move to us so i doubt he'd change his mind when Sheff Utd are doing so well.
Actually, he did want to come to us, but when we found out we were up against Stoke and we thought that he might well chose them over us, we dropped out. Apparently, there was a fear that it would have a negative impact on our other transfer dealings, if we were to be rejected. Still, at least we got Manucho, who was better, apparently.
Beatties best years are well behind him, I see him mentioned a lot in connection with us over the last few years, we would be better off taking a chance with a young striker from the lower leagues or elsewhere
I don't particularly want either. A couple of years ago I'd have happily taken Beattie as he was a proven striker in the prem. But I'd never go anywhere near Evans.
fuller, beattie and co all sound like duffers transfers... I thought we'd move on from crocks, last payday lone rangers etc...??
Why? its an allegation not a fact as yet. Beattie is only 32, younger than Mckenna who is doing pretty well i would say.
I agree but Matt said he wouldnt ever go for Evans. I meant if the charges are dropped. Beattie is willing to come off the bench for Sheff U, would be ideal for us when we need to go direct.
