Seems a bit "her word against theirs" for me. If they raped her let them rot in hell, but a multiple year prison sentence based on "her word over his" seems very harsh to me.
It wont be the first or the last time a girl has cried rape when they never got paid......im not saying she did this but i cant understand why one gets 5 years and the other gets acquitted..surely if the both were there then they both should get the same punishment whether one raped her and the other one watched and did nothing.
A petition has been started to have Evans' name removed from the PFA League One team of the year. Will anyone here be signing it,or do you think he should retain the honour?
well vetch, gordon taylor said it wasnt a 'moral judgment' or something like that, just a recognition of his achievements in his profession, i agree with him. the awards have already taken place, whats there to petition against? that he is removed from the history books? this is just my opinion but girls who get smashed on a night out are asking for trouble, thankfully my parents have given good advice to my sisters with regards to that stuff, basic things like not going out alone or getting smashed, for guys its different though of course.... though rape is a serious crime, the conviction rate is actually surprisingly low.
Im not too sure about this tbh. Should his professional acheivements be taken away ? if he won olympic gold at the 100m sprint final then was convicted of rape would we take his medal away from him ?? If he did rape the drunk girl which judging by his sentence, suggests its pretty water tight then he deserves all the pain in the world, taking away his position in the team of the year for L1 just seems a bit trivial considering the crime that has been commited, its not going to change anything other than maybe make a few people feel good about themselves for getting something like this together. The person involved would probably just want to move on (or try too) making up a petition of this kind isnt going to make the girl feel better its just going to prolong her agony id have thought ?? A touchy subject, especially with an appeal hearing to come, for that reason alone it would be silly to remove him from the pfa team, there is a chance he could be found innocent on appeal , though i doubt it!
Well no doubt he's scum, but that is a bit to far I think, what next removing him from the match write ups where he scored? Just leave it there and hope the bastard rots in jail.
Unfortunately,Gordon Taylor always takes the side of the player regardless of the rights or wrongs of the situation. So his opinion counts for nothing in my book. I can see both sides, but at the end of the day I would vote he gets taken off the list. Young lads need to see that his behaviour is not acceptable. Girls have as much right to get smashed as males. They also have the right not to be taken advantage of by males who think they deserve what they get. Any male who forces his attention on girls is asking for trouble, and should get it. Rape is a truly ghastly crime, which has been treated in such a cavalier fashion historically, especially by the police. No female "asks for it". Only cowardly, inadequate males would ever carry out rape. Many rapes are not reported. I knew a girl who told me,and I believe her, that she was raped by a policeman who had offered her a lift home. I feel very strongly about this issue.
