I don’t really keep in touch with these things so have no real idea or opinion on it. It just worries me a little.

I’ve read that Russia don’t have any financial clout now but have man power.

Think alberts right having read a bit last night and Russia don’t want NATO involved. I think they still believe that Ukraine is theirs.

There must be a solid reason for both USA an us to tell nationals to leave Ukraine ASAP.

I can’t see it being war but what do Russia have to gain from this. If the taps where turned off (energy supply) I don’t think Russia would have an economy.

Anyhoo this is about drug taking in sport, I think there is already fearmongering Russian war thread.

Let’s keep each of your Russian fears in the right place <laugh>

<laugh> I don’t think the Russians are starting a war because they want Ukraine back mate. I get that’s the rhetoric in our press but it’s a little simplistic to stoke up the simple masses.

Yes strangely enough I am aware of why Russia are objecting but ultimately it has nothing to do with Russia as to whether an independent country such as Ukraine wish to join NATO or not and whether NATO decide to accept a request from an independent country such as Ukraine to join them or not.

And if you think Russia are entitled to then frankly you are a moron.

Come on chaps let’s not fight.

I agree Russia are technically looking like the bullies in this. But as slouchy says is the West over egging the situation?

It does look concerning the Russian deployments all around Ukraine mind.

I can see both sides of the argument.

The Russians see Ukraine as part of their buffer zone keeping the West from their door.

It very much does concern Russia as much as it concerns any other nation. Each and every country is entitled to maintain their own security. That’s without getting into the credibility of NATO which Stevie Wonder can see is questionable.

I reckon whole Olympic Committee needs a clean up. WADA is not fit for purpose, neither are those involved in the committee. Why they allow individuals with personal business interests to be involved will never be explainable. Just because they have a history or background in athletics, we shouldn't be so naive about their intentions. Its no better than FIFA or UEFA and their scandals. You have the likes of Dick Pound, Seb Coe, and John Coates preaching to us on matters of human rights in China or the doping scandals. All while they line their pockets with personal commercial interests in China - I'm sure that had nothing to do with the games arriving there.

Is it that hard to find honest individuals without any commercial interests? Of course it isn't.

You'll never clean up the sports with this kind of leadership. The Russians and Chinese are pushed forward as the big bad state sponsored drug users. We are supposed to ignore the past controversies involving American, UK or Jamaican athletes and coaches. American sport is littered with doping problems - look at american football, cycling or even the BALCO situation. Do they think we are all just sat naive thinking they aren't still doing this sort of thing and are just clever enough or paying enough to get away with it?

Of course its disgusting that a 15yr old minor is being used as a political pawn and has been potentially exposed to a serious medication without her knowledge. Seeing her breakdown in tears on the ice in practice is absolutely disgusting. They should all be ashamed of themselves - the Russians, the doping bodies and the heads of the organisations. We know better than anyone the culture in any organisation is set by those at the top. So if corruption is the game the likes of Coe, Pound and Coates play, they are responsible for the trickle down below them in doping or any other matter. The Russian doping bodies and WADA's excuse for the delayed result is laughable. COVID outbreak in the Swedish lab. Just **** off. WADA is now chucking the Russians under the bus ignoring its a WADA approved lab which has failed to return the results. Of course the Russians should have followed up but the bigger picture is pathetic.

Its sad that we can't just get a clean competition but to be honest I've given up hoping now. Every time there appears to be a step forward, some link is exposed to ensure you know you're being let down again. I'd be almost tempted to finally switch to the camp of "just let them all dope" but I don't fancy seeing a load of athletes drop down dead.

Love the Russians, Chinese and Iranians. All lovely people. Iranian people are the best. They insist on feeding you whenever you go to their house. They get insulted if you refuse. I'm sure all three have ****ty people in power though. Just like the UK, US, France, Canada, New Zealand, Australia. Actually it'll take too long to list every single country. All ran by ****s basically. The difference is I'm not daft enough to watch our news channels and believe any of the bullshit on them

I wonder how the US would react if Canada left NATO, signed an arms pact with the Russians and allowed them to build a military base on their doorstep? You reckon they’d be all understanding and not object to the Russians joining Canada in some little power club - ah that’s right we have historical information on such a situation with Turkey and Cuba. Puts some nice perspective on who is to blame for current tensions. History is a bitch

    Struggling with the logic.

As Russia have gas and oil we are, therefore, threatening to economically isolate them because of Ukraine. With the intention of what?

Surely if we are doing this because we are after gas and oil we wouldn’t defend Ukraine as we wouldn’t want to upset Russia?

We would go in and nick the Ruski’s oil and gas putting a stop to their ****housery over supply and demand, ending the never ending president and claiming a democratic victory for good people everywhere …… Please tell me your reading my sarcasm correctly as I’m already several pre match pints in <laugh>

The only bully here is Russia
They are the ones with 100000 troops on an independent countries border
(More than 70% of which will be conscripts by the way)
This is the 21st century, you can’t just invade countries anymore
    Oh wait…..
