That's the bigger picture! The achievements are equal as both would have won the ultimate trophy in their given sport.
Football teams have 11 players on the pitch, rugby has 15 on the pitch. A biker is out there on their own and it's all up to the individual once the race starts.
Team mates on the pitch do, on a fairly regular basis, blame their team mates (England team as a recent example) for their failure whereas a lone biker can only blame himself.
If a bike rider makes a mistake it may cost him his life, a footballer may break a toe or miss a sitter. In rugby fatalities happen but I'd suggest not as many as in the world of motorbikes. So there's the bigger picture and yes I do believe it's a bigger achievement when a single person gets the ultimate trophy in their given sport over a team game.

taff, you've won me over, individual sports require far more mental strength than team sports, you have to be at the top of your game to win, whereas team games you can be a passenger and win trophies, that said bale's been class and should be in the top 3 but a world championship should always be up for the award 
The achievements are not equal because statistically it is far harder for Wales to win a football World Cup than a rugby World Cup. Your rant about team sport v individual sport is irrelevant as the last time I looked, David Greene was also competing as an individual sportsman.
PGF, What are you talking about? Stats are all well and good but can be manipulated to show different results based on your audience.
If you reach the top of your profession and you can't go any higher then the achievement by both is equal. You've both reached the top!

Oh and another stat, more people voted for Chaz so he, in the eyes of the voters, did more than the other sportsmen & women and in their opinion is the Welsh Sportsmen of the year.

well deserved IMO. chaz has been brilliant and its about time it was given to motor sport and not any of the usual populus

You came up with the conclusion that I stated that statistically 11 or 15 players should always do better than 1 player - which is not what I said! I was trying to show that Wales winning the football World Cup was far harder than Wales winning the rugby World Cup. The very fact that our football team never qualifies shows this to be true.
Equally, it is far harder for a Welsh athlete to win a World title than a Welsh bike rider to win a World title.

individual achievement is far harder than a team sport any day of the week, chaz fully deserves his award for a brilliant year in his sport, i voted for Dai Green but i have no complaints about the winner....
