As part of my attempts to improve my diet I've ditched ultra-processed 'ready meals' (spag bol or chilli or curry in a plastic pack, or pies ) and supermarket sandwiches. So on weekdays I make my own sarnies for work - much nicer. And in the evenings or at weekends I try to do at least a minimum of cooking; Fish & chips Burger & mash That kind of thing. OK the burgers are processed to some extent, but not as much as an entire ready-meal. I buy the high end ones and like to try the unusual - Ostrich, venison, anything else that might catch my eye. Very tasty for the most part. The Ostrich tasted unlike any other kind of bird - quite beefy. But then Ostriches are only very distantly related to most farmed fowl. However, I am drifting off-topic.
He makes 4/5 changes every game, because all of the players at his disposal are much of a muchness (crap).
Fair play to the players for sticking at it. But we are not a top six side. Wrexham are no great shakes either.
Well you did ask me in another thread why I had slept through the second half of last Saturday's match...
I’ve got to be honest, I am totally underwhelmed with Nathan Jones. I expected a lot more. Where is this top class coach he thinks he is ??
A quarter deep into the season, and Nathan Jones still doesn’t know his best X1 or formation. He’s making 4/5 starting changes for every match, and 4/5 subs during the game. We always knew that NJ would not produce a free flowing side that played passing football, but I expected a lot more progress in terms of the team’s identity by now. What happened to the energetic high press and the quote “running all over the opposition” ? We have seen barely any of that, either. I am not advocating getting rid of Jones, no manager can succeed under Methven & Scott, who are dictating the strategy and scouting the players. Scott should have been fired long ago, and certainly for his handling of CBT and Dobson. Selling Alfie May was the red flag for many (although not all), and exposed just how limited this latest ownership is going to be. It’s starting to look very similar to the Sandgaard era - an odds & sods of a team, and oodles of bull s hit off the pitch.
The main problem is the midfield. No leaders no pace or real quality, however he shuffles the pack. TC is the only player who can run with the ball, in the absence of Ramsey and Small. And he gets no support when faced with 2 defenders.
Were the half scarf's one of Methane's cringey stunts ? I used to watch Wrexham as a local club years ago (20 miles) . Can't be doing with them and the circus now. Good luck for the rest of the season. The Tory bullshìtter won't be there forever
Methven has somehow convinced of group of American billionaires to buy us. When I say “us” what I mean is meet the £8m a year running costs for at least 24 months - they have no interest in buying the Valley, which sadly the club no longer owns. Not only that, Methven has appointed himself CEO of the club, and seems to be keeping the investors at arm’s length while telling them he can cut the club’s losses from the current £8m a year while at the same time producing a team that gets promoted Last season saw us finish 16th in L1 under Methven - the lowest league finish in our history. He also hired & fired two managers in short order. This season - despite the promises, the BS & the off field gimmickry, is not going much better. Most, although by no means all Charlton fans have seen through this Walter Mitty character. It won’t end well for us as a club.
Similar for us mate. We likened him to David Brent. It did end well for us after the worst two seasons of our history under his watch, thankfully he fooked off and we got a decent owner. Fingers crossed you experience a similar outcome as us.
Problem for us is that he's the latest in a series of dodgy owners, each one leaving the club in a worse State. Our situation is precarious.
