This is what I mean about poor management decisions during a game. Slade had both Johore and Immers (who has already scored in his short time with us) on the bench as attacking options when he decided to take off O'Keefe. What did he do? He put on serial failure Macheda because of his past goalscoring record against Charlton and he flopped again - terrible decision based on a false premise. Immers through the middle to replace O'Keefe would have been a more attacking format and even a punt on Zahore up front instead of Pilks would have shown some ambition. What have we brought these players to the club for if he isn't going to use them? This guy in charge of the decisions to be made at the club to win a game of football during a game is underperforming big time and I just hope Tan can be convinced of that if he really needs to be. If by some chance we were fortunate to get into the playoffs, the likely managers Slade will come up against would beat him hands down tactically. The sooner he is replaced by someone with a clear vision of what is needed on the pitch during that all important 90 minutes the better.
I have just watched the 2 extended highlights of the games v MKD and Charlton. On top of being robbed of 2 points v Rotherham it was unbelievable how many chances went begging in these 3 games. And how many decisions, blocks and woodwork went against us? Marshall only had to make a handful of routine saves The Ameobi sending off was farcical; the ball to Pilkington clearly evidenced he was onside. Ameobi then smashes it into the net in a split second. How is that time wasting? It should have been a goal. I appreciate it was only 10-14 minutes highlights but there was enough good build up play and shooting and defensive work to have some hope that we may see a few more wins this season. City deserved a bigger haul than 3 points from those 3 games - 9 would have been not unreasonable given the 3 games.
Agreed Nin but what is disappointing is that we only got 3. While there are some positive improvements we clearly miss a clinical finisher. I like Pilkington, he has a great attitude and skill set however, being a regular scorer is not one of them. Unless Saadi or Zohore can show us they have this attribute, and in a hurry, this could well be our story for the rest of this season. Immler has a reputation of knowing where the back of the net is but for some reason he is not being given the opportunity. He started with 1 goal in 1 and a bit games but has then spent his games running up and down the touchline - on the wrong side. Why sign him if not playing him?
Sorry Nin but deserving something doesn't cut the mustard - you have to make it happen. You can rant about the woodwork and the referees but at the end of the day we should have beaten both MKD and Charlton comfortably. The whole approach to winning games on the hoof is lacking at the club and that stems from the dugout.
Got to agree with there you OS. It is just maddening, frustrating, annoying etc... I expect we will see a step up in quality of the opposition this Saturday.
