Two moments of quality decided the result, in the end it was a clinical win. The defence was excellent until Bielik went off, Naby looked quite creaky, he remains at Charlton as a testament to Thomas Driesen. Barnsley were a well-drilled side who had plenty of the game, but Steer had only one save to make. I guessed the crowd at about 9,000, quite alarming for a kid a quid day.
He’s played all season. He’s overall play isn’t great, but if he keeps poaching goals like today he will keep his place. Bowyer reported after the game that Igor Vetekole is injured again.
I know they do Ernie but you always have your go to words ... apologist and Regime , just keep repeating till your little eyes close , then tomorrow you can start all over again
I would say Barnsley are the best side we have played so far this season in L1. They look a tidier footballing side than what I saw from Sunderland. Any team that finishes above Portsmouth, Sunderland & Barnsley will go up outright - which is what a club like ours should be doing.
Peterborough were better when they came to the Valley in August than Barnsley were yesterday. I know Peterborough's late winner was controversial, and we deserved a 0-0 draw from that game. But that was only because we fought so hard against the very good football Posh were playing.
Fair point, I wasn't at that one. I still think the top 3 will revolve around Portsmouth, Sunderland & Barnsley.
Agreed. They outplayed us in midfield for spells, and their players had a good understanding of each other's roles. Having Bielik back made our defence much stronger though, and Dijksteel had a good game, even allowing for the twice he was caught out of position late on. I also liked the way Taylor and Grant gave each other the credit for the second goal.
Peterborough lost 0-4 at home to Barnsley, and lost again yesterday at home , teams are starting to be inconsistent bar Portsmouth, we need a run which we could easily achieve and it will look a lot more rosy. Yesterday was a huge boost most people has us down to take a spanking and we comfortably won , should have been more Taylor chance , ruled out goal etc. Now we have to do a very uncharlton like thing and win a game Tuesday that we are expected to win
Regarding the disallowed goal from Reeves' corner...we were right behind it and you could immediately see that their keeper misjudged the flight of the ball and the goal was good. Subsequent photographic evidence shows that there was no Charlton player anywhere near the Barnsley keeper, let alone impeding him. There really are some sh1t officials in this league...literally nicking their expenses every Saturday.
