I'm not 100% all the signings were Cook's, there's a few which don't seem to fit his style of play plus he constantly said he likes working with a small squad. In terms of last night, I don't think too much criticism could be laid at McGreals door he's been at the club very little time plus only had a day to work with the players, so you wouldn't want to change much at all. Which again partly puzzles me as to why someone who had been at the club longer didn't take the interim post. I'm fairly sure Donacien actually played the majority of his time for Accrington at LB, so to me whilst he looked awful didn't seem to big of a risk to take
I like a 532 and Charlton proved last night it can work in this division. They looked so well balanced all over the park whereas the 4231 formation we play feels like each line is so far away from the other. I'd play Burgess as the Centre CB flanked by Edmunson and Woolfenden as both can bring the ball out of defence. Then when fit Burns and Coulsen would be ideal as wing backs. Then a midfield 3 of Morsey, Fraser and 1 other, again I think both Morsey and Fraser would be better suited to a 3. Finally very unlikely to happen but Norwood and Bonne up top. Looks like quite a balanced team to me. Only issue is you then have a few 'star' players left out and I don't think we have a great deal of back up with that formation
I like the idea of a back three but think Donacien would be better on the right side. Bit like a Kyle Walker, RB turned centre back with license to get forward when appropriate. Also good one on one to stop crosses. Would definitely have Chaplin in the team, not interested in seeing Norwood anymore.
Looks like you might get back to being interested in seeing Norwood in the squad... whatever he does off the pitch, on the pitch IMO he's our best striker and exactly the type of player we need at the moment. He leads from the front in terms of chasing and harrying the defence. I'm still not 100% convinced by Donacien and whilst we've seen more from an attacking sense from him recently I'm not sure what he'd be like in a back 3 but I guess there's only 1 way to find out
I wouldnt be surprised to see Norwood up there either. He's been scoring for fun in U 23s and is keen to showcase his talents, and been a good boy!
