8th December update; Middlesbrough 1-0 Charlton Athletic Attendance: 18,681 (Approx. 600 from Charlton)
11th December update; Charlton Athletic 0-1 Huddersfield Town Attendance: 13,488 (680 from Huddersfield)
Horrible stats for a home game against a relegation rival. I estimated the actual attendance at 9,000- about a third of the seats looked occupied.
And they have cost us 5 points. If we had 29 points instead of 24 right now, with a goal difference of +3 instead of -2, Charlton would be 13th in the Championship table (Millwall would have only 28 points instead of 30 & Hull would still be on 29 points, with a worse GD than us). We must stop leaking very late goals.
2 last night 1 against Bristol City 1 against Millwall 1 against huddersfield None against Sheffield Wednesday - we lost 1-3, but they did not score both their 2nd and 3rd goals in second half stoppage time. We would have lost 1-2 anyway.
I think the attendance credibility gap is probably being made worse by the higher number of ST holders. But it seems strange to me that - in this time when all tickets are scanned and presumably logged on entry - that the Club cannot know how many season ticket holders have actually turned up to any particular match. Without that information, the 'official' attendance figure is almost meaningless. I would guess there were actually about 10,000 Charlton fans at each of those two evening home games.
