This 20-year old left-back has been pulling up trees on loan at Fleetwood Town this season, and he has been a key figure in their push for promotion from League Two. He is highly regarded by the manager Graham Alexander, who knows a thing or two about playing at full-back, so he's learning from a good man. Like Dawson, he looked a bit small when he made his Leeds debut but he has grown and looks strong now. He has tremendous pace, and a sweet left foot reminiscent of one Ian Harte. High praise indeed!! I watched him play at Scunthorpe on Monday night in an important top of the table clash, and he was outstanding. Besides his constant threat down the left flank with his pace scaring defenders and his crosses putting the Scunny goal under pressure, he was always involved and contributing. He cut inside in the second half and won a penalty (missed by the striker), and also came flying across his box to win the ball from a low cross that the Scunny striker simply had to tap in after the defence was beaten on the break. It came as no surprise that Taylor was named man of the match, even though the Scunny keeper did a Schmeichel and kept them in the game, a 0-0 draw. So, do we leave Taylor on loan at Fleetwood, or do we recall him and blood him at Championship level now? Fleetwood Pros - very good manager to learn his position from; challenging for automatic promotion so lots of pressure to cope with; plays every week and is getting stronger all the time; starting in League Two so his confidence in his own ability keeps growing Cons - none that I can think of Leeds Pros - if we are safe but no chance of promotion, playing Taylor for the last ten games will help him to settle in and understand what McD wants from him; he will be an improvement over what we currently have at left-back; give him dead ball responsibilities with his left foot and let him grow Cons- he gets left on the bench and wastes valuable development time; we then throw him in next season a la Mowatt and he gets hurt Another quality prospect from our Academy, and one I expect to become a star player, hopefully with Leeds. Keep him as far away from the mad house as possible and let him concentrate on his game Glad he's doing well as left back is a hard position to fill!
Leave him at Fleetwood this season and let him get a full season playing in a first team. I would hate to see him become the next Ben Parker.
Great thread. I've stopped posting as much because here because it reminds of JA606, but this is what i signed up for, good input; and glad to hear another young player is coming through are ranks.
Yea, I was gonna bring this lad up again, think he shows a lot of promise. I'd keep him at fleetwood till the end of the season though.
Many congrats to the lad on helping Fleetwood win promotion at Wembley ... this boy is class and he needs to be given his chance now that he has a three year contract with us ... be great to see him playing next season, and hopefully Lewis Cook also gets a chance to sample first team action "For the sake of Leeds United he would break himself in two"
Leeds 60,ai allways respect your opinion and as you say if he's good enough he's old enough. Do you think he is? And lets face it,I'd rather have a 20year old trying to impress, than warnock or pugh,Aidy white doesn't seem up to it either. Give the lad a chance?
Estapona I have not seen the boy play but from what Billy says I would give the boy a chance especially in the close season along with Cook My views on Poleon are that he won't make it with us I would loan him out next season Hunt what use is he, along with White, Norris and Kenny who appears to me to have a couldn't care less attitude I'm not a big fan of Lees either so that's a few less on the books How do you get rid of a problem like HUNT he will have to be forced out by whatever means ehe Italians have!
I agree, Hunt/Norris/Kenny will be hard to move on, damn shame as we need their wages freed up to help with the squad ... Poleon has been a bit of a disappointment, but the lad does seem to score goals, he has terrific pace, maybe a good run in the team will help him settle and improve ... White can still get there, but he also needs a solid run of games to get going in the team ... Lees will get better, he is still a baby, and along with Wootton we have two good young 'uns who will improve and have the potential to be solid defenders, they just need better quality in front of them
I don't think Poleon or White are/will ever be good enough to play for Leeds. Pace is a terrific asset, but if you can't do anything with it, it's useless. Lees needs to toughen up, he gets bullied by attackers too often. Needs to improve his positional sense as well. Hoping for a big impact from Taylor next year though, and hopefully Mowatt will come back after summer in better shape too.
White? How many more years are you prepared to give him, Billy? I say he's had more then enough bites of the cherry. Hasn't put in one decent cross this season. You'd have thought that he might have realised that crossing was part of his job. A bit of practice might have helped. Or perhaps it hasn't! The problem with Poleon is that he is probably a (poor) direct replacement for Rossco, playing off Smith. He's got to hope we sell Rossco & don't sign anyone else for him to get a chance to prove himself. I personally don't think it's going to happen. He needs to go out on loan for me to develop. I don't have the same problem with Lees that most have. Or Wooton. Both are young, like you say, & need leadership. We need a Terry Butcher type in there to marshal them. Not sure that Pearce fits that bill, good though he is.
Charlie Taylor looks a solid player from what i've seen, heard that he's been pulling up trees this season which is a fantastic compliment. White can leave now, I wouldn't mind in the slightest he will most likely do a decent job in league 1. I think Cook is bit too young but if we loaned him out for 6 months to a League 2 team would be good for both Leeds and him. I can't comment on Dawson, i've not seen him play.
Agree with,Jock and revoloution, white is neither left back nor winger, can leave. As for charlie, give him a go,what do we have to lose?
White has a year left, we aren't going for promotion, may as well give him a run and see what happens, we could just end up with a player who suddenly blossoms ... Poleon does need a loan spell, preferably at a club at the right end of the table ... Mowatt and Dawson both have ability in spades, and may well both benefit from loan spells similar to Taylor to help them grow physically and mentally away from the pressures of playing at ER "For the sake of Leeds United he would break himself in two"
Billy, totally disagree,he's had enough chances, fair enough he was messed about being played as a winger, but I don't think he'll ever make it with leeds. Why not give Taylor a chance,as you say were not aiming for promotion next year. Not sure I believe that tho.
White will never make it, he has had more games than anyone else at the club and he still has shown nothing to any manager that has bothered to have a look. There is no point persisting with him.
