With a bit of luck all the other chairmen would have read Sulliven's comments about Austin's dodgy knees and stay well clear
I see Burnley have signed Andre Gray for £9 million, he was linked strongly with us a few weeks ago. I can still see Charlie going on deadline day and we'll be toothless, especially if Phillips goes as well...
I can see it too yet it seems contrary to what Les and Chris have done so far with largely sensible bit also some exciting signings. We can only wait and admire Charlie and Matt's professionalism as we do. Sterling take note!
Norwich offering an 'initial' £10m for Austin according to The Times. Now that would be a bitter pill........
I read somewhere that Norwich City's approach had cooled as Sir Les is insisting on £15m - cash on collection - non negotiable!
I got the impression from Ramsey that not only are we holding out for £15m but Charlie is being fussy about clubs as well. Which would rule Norwich out. It's a giant game of bluff - how long before we blink on price, how long before desperation forces a move from buying club (I reckon Spurs), how long before Charlie decides the Prem, no matter with what club, is what he wants. He's not a kid, he hasn't got that much time to burn.
Charlie has been good as gold in dealing with all the speculation & hasn't caused us any problems, if none of the top sides come in for him I can see him staying well hopefully, but if fate happens I hope we got a replacement lined up even on last day!
I had heard that £14m has been offered but it is hard to imagine that Norwich would offer that much for one player - just not in the nature of the beast. That said, Alex Neil is most definitely looking to get a striker and seems to be looking at players with PL experience, so maybe there really is something in this...???
Cash plus Hooper? I read something about him being on £35k a week, but thought you had a cap of £20k, which would fit in with our new 'Scrooge' philosophy. But if you do have a cap of £20k, Charlie is already on £28k and would probably expect at least £40k.......
Not sure what the wage cap is these days, I thought a little higher but probably not by much. If Hooper was on as much as you think, then pushing the boat out a little more would not be beyond the club at all. They are financially stable now and still not spending heavy so I guess anything is possible. We do need a striker quite badly as Jerome is probably the only striker we have that is likely to scores goals with any regularity. The others work hard but are just not good enough at this level. Hooper would be good enough if we played two up front bu AN likes the lone striker with 5 behind in midfield. Would CA suit that role?
That is a very good question. He has scored in that role in the last 2 games, but common feeling on here is that he prefers to play off a big CF (ironic as he looks like a big CF himself, but he isn't) which is why we played him with Zamora all season. If you get crosses in he will score though, what he doesn't do is hold the ball up, so you would need a midfield that gets forward quickly and some good wingers. Redmond looks the business. Charlie is a bit of an enigma to me. I don't actually think he's that good, but man he scores goals, seems like a good character and doesn't shirk.
According to our resident ITK (yes, we have them too), you can all sleep easy tonight - all speculation and dreams
totally spot on assessment - he really isn't that good but he just happens to know where the goal is! Having said that i thought he'd been anonymous today apart from his goals then the Beeb said that he's assisted both of Chery's too.
He did - two sharp first time passes, first to set Chery up, second to send Luongo away for his excellent pull back to Chery. So that's me told.
