My issue is the lack of consistency. Players dont even get booked for telling a ref to **** off right to his face, yet for putting 2 fingers up to a massive group of fans gets 2 game ban. No logic involved in these decisions
I am a placid guy but if was booed I would probably do the same. Doesn't make it right though. I am guessing, that what was being shouted, was more than just a feeble booing exercise?
hang on. you can cynically foul someone (err tactical foul) cheat by diving, stamp on someone, tell the ref to **** off and get a yellow card. You point two fingers at the crowd (like they never would do such a thing) and you're banned for 2 games? ridiculous!
It is what it is. Yes It's not in proportion but if you do something like that you know there's a good chance that you'll serve a ban so there's no point arguing about it. Just a silly thing to do.
The question isn't whether the ban is consistent with other things a player can do while on the pitch, but rather whether it's consistent with other bans for doing the same thing. And it is. Jack Wilshire got a two-match ban a few years ago for making an obscene gesture. It should be of precisely no surprise to anyone that Austin got the punishment for doing the thing that he did.
