I see others have answered that already so I don't need to.

However, on a wider point I think the argument that people don't give to charities because they're corrupt or syphon off amounts is a complete cop out tbh. Responsible charities make it very clear what proportion of contributions is spent on admin or fund-raising. If you want to give, choose the one whose figures you agree with.

Now you could say what actually matters is how the charity benefits the recipients. Charities tend to be held accountable to donators but that's a good thing because being accountable to donators promotes further donations. You, me, anyone can assess charity performance by the impact on the recipients and therefore choose the one which is having the greatest impact. So this idea that charities as a whole don't benefit the recipient, are corrupt, waste of money, or have little impact, is a false narrative because you have the information and you have the choice. Don't get me wrong, people shouldn't give if they don't want to, but I'd rather they just said that, than try and justify it with bollox.

Would agree - there are plenty of good charities out there, which do their best to keep admin costs low. I understand why people complain when they see the salaries some of the charity bosses are on but they are effectively running a large multinational business and having to compete for a limited pot of charity money.

On principle I never give anything but abuse to "charities" like Greenpeace as they spend half their money staging stupid ship boardings and the other half on legal fees for the people that are arrested doing them. Would rather give the money to Greta Thunberg to go round the world shouting at people to sort out climate change.

Out here there are plenty of worthy causes but its better donate goods rather than cash and give it directly to the people who need it rather than a charity.
