It's interesting how the comments on this thread have followed a pattern where anyone critical of racist behaviour in football (including football forums) have almost had to run the gauntlet of abuse from those who trivialise racism. It seems that some people find it painful to even read this criticism and they can only deal with it by emotionally characterising posters as bleating, liberal, politically correct ****wit girls. Maybe this is a form of guilt or denial, I don't know.
I assume that line is aimed at me, and if so, you're a million miles from the point I was making. Once again, I'm not condoning any of the incidents mentioned. I'm simply saying that we're a bit too obsessed with 'racism' and petty name calling gets treated as 'racial abuse' as though someone is being persecuted by being called a raghead. Perspective is all I'm suggesting. DMD gets it. Good post. I often wonder how many people of various ethnic minorities actually give a **** about all this stuff we get ourselves so worked up about. As for the actual point of the OP, there's just loads of bickering now. Hardly anyone, if anyone at all, on this thread has condoned or agreed with the original chanting. Is everyone aware of that while they're arguing about whatever it is?
I'm eager not to keep this going on, the whole thread has been a bit pointless. I'd just like to say that just because people aren't going to be rounded up and beaten with sticks, doesn't mean they aren't being 'persecuted'. Things like 'Leicestistan', or 'Raghead' clearly have negative connotations, yet most of the people which are called this have probably been in Britain all their lives. It perpetuates the idea that to come from a different race is bad. Now, I can see that logically, it shouldn't be any different from any other petty name-calling. But society isn't all that logical, and there are undoubtedly people who genuinely do see different races as a problem/issue. Not that I support any other type of name-calling, but when somebody hears a chant about fat people, or ginger people - they know that there isn't going to be a march the next day, trying to keep 'them' out of the country. To be honest, I find the whole "slightly changing names" thing that happens on the forum a bit childish and pathetic, but I wouldn't usually bring it up unless it was being discussed at length here already.
Here's a true story that could put some context to this. Now, I've no reason to doubt the OP. There are people who delight in generating a reaction. A huff and indignant bluster are some are going for would amuse them no end and be seen as job done. Right, the story. Many moons ago, someone I know very well read a small comment on another clubs message board from someone mentioning that someone near them swore a lot. Now the poster that made that comment also liked a bit of mischief, so there's the distinct possibility that there wasn't an ounce of truth in the allegation and even if there was, he would have been one of only a handful that would have heard it. Being then mischievous, the someone I know chipped into the thread with short comments, and added 'racist' into the comments. Nobody noticed it had been dropped in, and just carried on commenting that they didn't need such things. To their absolute surprise, the issue grew to such a degree that not only the club in question issued a statement, but the local Mayor spoke in the press about racism at the club and the need to stamp it out and the Police replied. All without a shred of truth or attempt to find the truth, just sparked by a troll on a wind up. If anyone had taken the time to check, they'd have found that, if there was an issue at all, it was foul language from one bloke in a near empty stand and even that was only based on the opinion of one other mischief maker. The actual complaint, if it even existed, was never addressed despite all the attention.
Anyone who feels the need to take the piss out of someone on the basis of something like their race is just a soft c*nt who wants to feel part of the âbigger groupâ or majority. Only way to do this is to call someone a râghead or fat c*nt or sp*z or in some other way point out a difference between their group and a smaller one or individual. Itâs not that they hate that person or group, just that they like being one sheep amongst many the same, and donât have the bollocks to stand on their own or as a minority. Hiding behind a group that all look the same like them fu*king venison bambis in nature documentaries. Same kind of people were frightened of trains when they got invented cause they were different to the barges they were used to.
This is a debate that will air itself from time to time and actually it is a reasonable debate. What is wrong with it? Five blokes or 50000 what difference does it make, if it wasnt of interest no one would have bothered.
Leicester is about the same size as Hull. Leicester now has approx 100,000 Indians/Asians. Are we not allowed to refer to this massive demographic change in anything but glowingly positive terms? The weekly rubbishing of opponents' towns is now part and parcel of the game (for better or for worse...). Poverty, drug problems, sinking trawlers, large homosexual population, lost industries etc are all verbal sticks with which to beat opponents. Why should Leicester's unusually large immigrant population be excluded from this ? 'Leicestan' is only negative in the minds of over-sensitive types who tread on egg-shells and who are obsessed with political correctness. If I feel like shouting it on Sunday, I most certainly will do.
The -stan ending was first used by a French government minister when he replied to someone from our Government had a go at the French Government about combating terrorism and sheltering terrorists when he remarked" we are not taking any lectures from a Government which has overseen the transformation of its capital into Londonistan". Some people want to get a grip and stop acting like pre-pubescent girls.
Woah, cool story bro. I still think the answer next time this happens is camera phone > YouTube if you don't want to alert the authorities or confront the morons yourself.
We should take our leads from the French? Ok, gotcha. Woah woah WOAH, we're acting like girls, who haven't had periods, we should stop debating this right now! CC wins too. Well done sir, well done.
And said what to him precisely? Please Mr officer look at my video evidence, they're being nasty about and ex player. The copper would laugh at you mate. And probably tell you to get a ****ing grip.
