I get that impression as well. He's always there making jokes with the linesman and chuckling while its still 0-0, but once we inevitably go a goal down he's hiding in the dugout not accountable at all.

The Macclesfield gaffer was screaming at his keeper all night showing he wanted to do all he could to make things happen, but NP seems to just live with it when it's not going right, no one seems to be telling the players what they are doing wrong or what else to do they just sit there. Then he comes out with some lightning quick, cocky responses when asked what went wrong by Burnsy etc.

Completely disagree - he's a top bloke away from the media, I get the impression he just finds the press stuff repetitive and drawn out.

Just don't criticise the boss too prematurely <ok>

Sad but true, but there's not much to be done about that.

But the media is the only time he has any sort of contact with the fans. The way he is with them shows he doesn't care how fans think, and that we can't have fans forums (the only opportunity we ever get to question him on decisions etc) because "Nigel doesn't like them."

This is what I meant. I've heard that he is a great bloke in person, that's nice for him. But for the fans he needs to be accountable in these interviews and not cancel fans' forums and things just because he doesn't fancy answering questions.

As opposed to the massive amount of respect we were shown at previous ones where we had to submit the questions in advance so that the club could screen them and prepare their answers ahead of them being read out by someone employed by the club so that they couldn't be changed?

That isn't true though is it, and even if it were it would be better than we get at the moment.

I went to all of them with the Duff man and Browny (3 or 4 I think) and asked a question I hadn't submitted at 2 of them.

Oh, and Browny came to our local with the OSC and had a chat with supporters.

I take your point, but he's the manager and makes the decisions. I don't think that he doesn't care what the fans thoughts are - the fans forums weren't really conjucive to anything anyway.

He has praised the fans in the past (don't ask for specific instances), and like any other gaffer appreciates the support, just because he doesn't harp on about how great we are (which we aren't) it certainly doesn't mean that he holds no respect for us

The forums might not have achieved anything for the club, but they only take a couple of hours, and lets everyone let of steam and come away feeling much more positive.

I think he's the right man for the job at the moment, and he's got another few weeks before I start to change that, but my patience at paying £31 to go to Leeds away or coming back to Hull from Huddersfield to watch that crap he served up tonight will be tested!

Anyone complaining about it being "only the Carling Cup" is missing the point entirely. As Pearson said, that was the strongest side he could have selected, and it wasn't good enough. This being in spite of Hobbs, Chester, Fryatt, Simpson and McKenna starting. Bar another Central Midfielder (and excluding the Keepers as we've seen little of them both and thus cannot distinguish between them), that's the entire spine of our team.

There's only three options, and all are equally worrying:
    1) They're just poor players.
    2) Some or all are decent players, but they cannot play as a team.
    3) They have an attitude of "it's only Macclesfield". (If this, I don't want them at MY club).

Macclesfield have continually been one of the worst sides in the 4th tier. So poor, in fact, that they lost at home to Dagenham on Saturday. So poor that they're favourites for relegation to the Conference. They have one of the smallest squads in the League, so we can hardly complain about strength in depth being our downfall, and one of the smallest budgets. Their average attendance is 1,500. We shouldn't have lost, it's as simple as that. The fact that you don't really care about the competition is a different matter entirely.

Also, why no Subs? Why not Atkinson or Emerton? Why the defensive play against a Division Four side, in a home game?

Can't disagree with that VE, the substitutions issue is a strange one - I would have definitely given one of the lads you mentioned a run out.

Disappointing night, hopefully this is - and I'm sure it is - merely a start of season blip :emoticon-0103-cool:

The thing that's pissed me off most is the Negative tactics. They're more effective in the Championship, and unlike Percy et al I think NP is quite right to employ them. But tonight? Really? I understand the need to respect lower league opposition, but how about some respect for the fans who pay to see that crap? <grr>

I didnt go to the game last night so cant really comment on the teams performance, however i do think calls to sack N.P are premature, against Blackpool i thought we were the better side and with better finishing we would have won by 3 goals. As N.P said about the team line up last night it was the strongest he could have put out which tells me that the likes of Dawson, Devitt and Harper are not good enough East and Pusic are still finding their feet at the club so we give them the benefit, Hobbs, Chester, Fryatt and Simpson were decent players last season and i expect them to come good (although booing the team off like some fans did on Saturday will hardly fill them with confidence) Mckenna as the holding midfielder has probably the most important role in the team as he has to dictate tempo, he is in effect only 2 games in and hasnt had time to work out how his team mates move or their prefered recieving options, give the guy 10 games and then see how he does. As for N.P being sacked that is just a silly statement, he nearly took us to the play offs last season which most fans were pleased about, he has a nucleus of good young talent to work with so let him do his job and if you are gonna call for his head then at least wait until he has had a decent tenure this season.

chill out man. barmby flashed a header wide and simpson missed his standard sitter. So we should have had extra time at least.

but city were not alone in going out to league 2 opposition last night. the performance was an embarrassment. NO EXCUSES THERE AT ALL.

lets wait and see what the situation is by the end of august first. nobody cares about the carling cup anymore it seams, well 5 championship clubs dont.

REMEMBER.......AFTER 5 LEAGUE GAMES LAST SEASON HULL CITY HAD ONLY 5 POINTS. THATS WHAT I AM LOOKING AT FIRST. NOT just KNEE JERK REACTIONS.

I'm hoping last night will act as a kick up the backside and the players will hopefully acknowledge that they owe the fans after last night. Far to early for anyone to be calling for the managers head. We'll see what Nigel is made of in these coming weeks to stop the season turning into a worrying slump. Hopefully with some more players going out, more can come in. Let's get behind the lads and hope they can geta result on Saturday. UTT.

We had all this Pearson out nonsense last year. Let's not go down that road again.

    Keep the faith.
