I'm not gonna say there aren't better options than Bridge and I'm not going to push his case too strongly (after all I only said I wouldn't hate the idea of him coming back) but Shaw should be first choice next year and I'm not convinced there'll be a lot of high quality left backs queuing up to play second fiddle to an exceptionally highly-rated 18 year old. As for Targett, you're right, we don't know how he would do. That means we can't rely on him as second choice left back. I mean, he's not even been in a first team squad yet has he? The whole point of signing an older player like Bridge on a one or two year contract would be that he's experienced enough to come in and do a job when required while also being old enough that he may accept a shorter contract and he's not going to be so bothered about missing games. In a season or two Bridge (or whoever) can be moved on or retire, and either Targett will be ready to compete with (or replace) Shaw or we can sign a younger left back.
