Swansea City defender Brandon Cooper has signed a contract extension through to the summer of 2023, with the option of an additional year.

The 20-year-old – whose previous deal had been due to expire at the end of the season – has been with the Swans since the age of six and is currently enjoying an excellent loan spell with Newport County.

Cooper has made 21 appearances for the Exiles, helping them top the League Two table and winning the League Two young player of the month award for October.

Cooper also scored his first senior goal in County’s victory over Harrogate, with Mike Flynn’s side having lost just two league games all season.

The centre-half – who already has two senior Swansea appearances under his belt – has been praised by head coach Steve Cooper, and the Swans’ boss is delighted to have secured the future of another academy product.
