I think it is, there are plenty out there in the 8-10 who would improve our side. just hope we can find them. but agree we have left it late to find them unless we have something up our sleeve already. I know wishful thinking.
Yes, if the price tags stay at that value, but should an £8-£10m player become a £15-£20m player, we're stuffed.
Basically we got 45 million for Ben Davis when we sold Siggy , 45 million for an academy player that Laudrup brought in and gave a chance to due to injury instead of looking around to bring someone else in . Brilliant eye for talent which led to a brilliant piece of business .
Not if we get relegated because we buy crap players on over inflated prices it won't. This can only be classed as good business if we bring in quality to improve the starting 11 and don't get relegated this season.
I fear for your pupils' safety next term if things don't work out by the end of the transfer window. Should I warn ESTYN now.
Is it just me, but I just can't get worked up over all this transfer saga and transfer windows. On a scale of disgruntledness I probably sit at around 2 out of 10. There seem to be some on here who are at their wits end over it all. It's my belief (many will call me naive perhaps) that the the board are doing the best they can under difficult circumstances. Running a Premier League football club must be a really tough gig. I dare say that there's a lot going on being the scenes (i.e complications) which none of us have a clue about. Negotiating the sale of your star player isn't likely to be straightforward. I think it was PGF who suggested that if the board sold Gylfi for £30 million there would have been outrage at selling on the cheap, yet when we hold out for £50 million there's equal outrage that nothing's happening and everything is put on hold as a result. It's a no-win situation for the board. Yet some would have you believe it's as easy as buying a tin of soup at Tescos . That's just an overall impression from reading the forum, I can't put names on "some". And as for replacing Gylfi...he's one of the top 4 midfielders in the PL by any stats you want to quote. It will IMPOSSIBLE to replace him on like-for-like basis because we can't afford anyone on a like for like basis, even if they were available. Therefore, we will be getting someone in who is not as good. End of. I'm sure there's plenty of work going on to find the best value available. It's all about expectations. Expect too much and you will be disappointed. I think we will finish 13-17th as there are several teams we should be finishing above whatever happens.
Yep I'm really heart broken for them, I mean why do they put them selves through all the pain and heartache just to satisfy the whims of a few ignoramuses , the very ones who have follow the club up and down the country, spending their hard earned cash on simple pleasures like a couple of pints , travel and tickets , standing in all weather conditions hoping those in charge hold the same values and ideals .the ones who travel for nothing want for nothing and get paid vast fortunes for the pleasure . I wonder when was the last time any of them dug a hole in the road or worked double shifts trying to earn enough to support their families and follow their team . Life's a bitch (for some) then you die.
Relegated ---smellegated , lots have been saying that over the past 7 seasons and it's basically unfounded .We got Llorente for 5 million last season and if reports are near correct , Chelsea could spend 30 million for him . Deals and gems are around , nothing has changed ....
What's the point of selling for £30m if we get relegated? Making £25m profit means nothing if we get relegated 9 months later as that transpires into a loss of at least £100m. You need to look long term rather than look at things like Huw Jenkin$$$$$$$.
I'm am looking long term , we stayed in the Premier for 7 seasons in the black for net spending in transfers . Just because you say we will get relegated doesn't mean we will . 45 million in the bank and our biggest wage off the books for a player that , I think , didn't fit into Clement's plans and will get the rest of the team motivated with his departure ....finally .
Roof - without wishing to be pedantic, and whilst agreeing with the general thrust of your comments, it must be remembered that Laudrup signed Tiendalli to cover Taylor's leg break, but Ben grew into the role and made it his own!
We just survived relegation. If we sell Llorente we'd have sold our best players. Relegation then would be very likely. 7 years in the PL means nothing if we get relegated next year
If we sell Llorente, then we need at least 5 players - players that should have had pre-season with us. Why do the Yanks make it difficult?
I think Tiendalli was brought in for the right side . When Taylor was replaced by Davies , there was still time before the window closed to grab a new , expierenced LB , but chose to give young Davies a chance , as Laudrup is re known for and what a brilliant move . Same as Sinclair . Sinclair was away playing for Great Britain I think and Laudrup sold him for profit before he got back and gave Routledge a chance . Routledge was like a new man under Laudrup .
Roof - just one example from one paper http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...t-back-Dwight-Tiendalli-on-free-transfer.html "I know my opportunity comes after an unfortunate injury for Neil Taylor, but hopefully I can bring experience to the squad and more options for the manager."
Sell Gylfi and Llorente for £70mish, get the lease for the stadium, cash in on the naming rights, sell at the end of next season, pocket the tv monies and walk away with the best part of £150m profit? Not bad for 24 months investment eh
