Looks like we've passed the Umbongo on to Sheff Utd to enjoy now.... Appears they haven't coughed up for a player who joined last year... Immediately barred from bringing players in during this window.
MM gets an extra week to work with Blackpool before his first game. They're home game is off because of a frozen pitch. Someone forgot to put 50p in the meter for the undersoil heating. Cant be that bad, Derby's home game is on. Still time I suppose.
Interesting first 20 minutes at Coventry More goals in 20 minutes than we can muster in 10 league games! Hope Robbie is coping.
Mixed result at the liability stadium. Birmingham move 3 points ahead of us but at least it ruined the home supporters afternoon which is something I suppose
Even if Wigan win at Blackburn tonight, they won't overtake us in the table, however................Blackpool and Huddersfield play each other tomorrow night. Don't really know what the best result would be for us in that one, but we could well be playing Boro on the weekend to get back off the trap door.
A draw probably? I read somewhere that we had the opportunity not to play the Luton game last week but the club in their wisdom decided to get on with it even though it was transfer deadline day and our new Manager would’ve had extra time to get to know his team before the Hull match
I thought I'd read the opposite somehwere - The EFL insisted it had to be played despite the transfer window end. On the which result is best situation, we've still got to play both yet so the ball is in our court. In fact we've still got 7 games to play against teams currently 16th or lower.
So technically then, even if we do slip below the dreaded dotted line then our destiny still lays in our own hands (Stay positive, think positive, be positive, take positive steps)...
On the plus front, it's now highly unlikely that they'll overtake us with their game in hand (ok, not impossible but very unlikely). In the words of Smoochie (© Sparky) we just need to start working harder and being more ruthless now. We are so agonisingly close to being a team that could pull itself out of the soft smelly stuff... It's just going to need that one lucky break/moment to kick start the required run... And based on the evidence, it WILL need to be some luck as we're spurning too many golden chances to purposely do it ourselves.
I'm not sure Smouchie's "working harder and being more ruthless" is going to hack it. We can bemoan our bad luck on occasions and even poor refereeing decisions, but the clear facts are that we lack quality and are not maximising the little that we have. If a gang of midfield thugs like Vaulks, Ralls and Patto were put on there, we'd cetainly be more "ruthless" and work harder, but it's the lack of creativity that's killing this club. I accept we can do little about it now unless we find an out of contract gem out there, but until that is addressed, this endless spiral toward League One seems nailed on. The problem seems to be we've become obsessed with not losing games rather than winning them. That stems from a lack of confidence amongst the players sent out there to do the job. Our skill factors may be lower than some of our competitors, but unless you believe you're good enough, you won't be. Personally I'd love to be wrong, but I don't rate Smoochie. He doesn't do it for me personality wise in the situation we now find ourselves. I hate to admit it, but you'd get more out of what we've got if Warnock was sending them out there. There, I've said it now.
