Dang, he is there best player, well bar RVP. £15m bargain, hope we got a sell on fee, because he won't be at Arsenal for more than three years.

He left in the right way as far as I'm concerned, at the end of the season and for a big fee! Gutted he didn't want to stay but I don't blame him.

Adkins has said he was professional and wished him well so I'm happy to do the same.

Apart from anything else, the better he does at arsenal the more money we will get! £3m in add-ons and if he goes to a better team for £30m down the line we will get another £12m so good luck to him!

Nigel said that Alex popped in to see everyone during training back along, so obviously theres no grudges. Thats good enough for me. Good luck kid, the world is at your feet.

Morons....what about the 12 million quid we got for a 17 year old proven for half a season at league 1? All he has done is give us a huge pay day and a fat transfer cheque!

What annoys me is that Arsenal get credit for "bringing through youngsters". Apart from Wilshere, has there actually been an arsenal player who didnt come from another Academy or Club?

I can't honestly say I wish our ex-Saints as well as I would if they still played for Saints, but there will always be a part of them that is Southampton FC, and I wish them well because they played for the only club that actually matters, at least for a while.

I look forward to the day which, according to our esteemed Manager and our incredibly ambitious Chief Executive and Chairman, won't be that long in coming, when our home grown starlets won't want to leave for a bigger and better club.

Because they will already be there. :D

Watched the game - thought he had a great full debut. Really pleased for him. Can only conclude that the idiots who have slated him for leaving are either still at school or university because if those of us who work for a living were offered a job with a bigger, better company; where the prospects for promotion are significant; enormous salary with benefits; far greater job satisfaction in your chosen career... ...the vast majority of us would take it. Football is a business and these are professional people in their chosen field. Time to live in the real world.

Look chamberlain was a class player for us, no doubt about that, and he helped us get promoted. Yes he then left for a bigger club, being 17 at the time and having the chance to play for arsenal while earning a tonne of money (not saying I would do it) but that is a tempting offer. Hope he does well for them.

Going to Pedantic here, Wilshere played for them as a young boy but was released at an early age. He spent the rest of his time at Luton and Arsenal then wanted him back as a teenager.

Ok Guys lets just take this down a peg or two.........Both of you have made good points. It is not hard to get a few emotional responses. We all liked Chamberpot and we wanted him to stay at Saints. The fact is his destiny lies elsewhere because of choices he made. Like him or loath him no one can deny that he was the star of Arsenals side yesterday. He is an ex Saints so people are going to refer about him now and again. When eventually he plays against us the vast majority of Saints fans will welcome him. A few will not.....that as they say is life. No need to get aggressive or insulting about it.

Well said, old soothsayer Beddy! Having supported Saints since their foundation - well it feels that way - I'm quite used to the idea of people going on from us. The way they leave is important, and Chamberlain did so with a dignity that was not always reflected by those around him if we are to believe the tweets that were doing the rounds. I'll applaud him back, and I hope he doesn't get the Shearer treatment. Never understood that one. If they've played for us and been committed - as Shearer certainly was - they deserve a welcome back from us. The one notable ex who left under a cloud was KP. And even his expression of regret at joining us was probably taken out of context.

Amazed as ever by some opinions.

Sometimes we choose to believe what we read and see in papers, other times we choose not to believe. If Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had done anything negatively in gaining his move to Arsenal, then the manager and chairman of our wonderful club, would not be welcoming him to the training ground and speaking so highly of him. So I draw my conclusion from comments made by Nigel that even though we would have liked him to stay, we still like him and remember him fondly.

I will however ask Mr Cortese himself, when I meet him later this week. Then I'll believe. I wonder of those showing some distane towards Alex on this thread will believe it if Mr Cortese says Alex is ok, or do they just adopt a view and stick to it?

On his performance yesterday, I thought he had a great game and Fergie must have had a chuckle when Wenger took him off.
