Whilst thinking about our need for at least one CH to shore up our defence my mind turned to past great centre half pairings seen at the Gate, for instance

Geoff Merrick & Gary Collier
Shaun Taylor & Louis Carey

I am sure there are many more this old grey matter is struggling to remember, any suggestions? <confused>
 
Shaun Taylor & Louis Carey were truley awesome, and when we almost recreated it with Carey and McCombe it was nearly as effective.

If only we wouldnt have chased Boom Boom out, we never would have been in this situation. I hope we can find that big first ball winner soon.

I am struggling to think of anyone better than Carey and Taylor, I always used to like Mark Shail and Matt Bryant, but they were never as good as C&T.
 
'Norman Hunter of course complemented Merrick & Collier'

As soon as Hunter joined City, Merrick was dropped from his LH position. Merrick was ok in the old Div 2 but not certainly good enough for Div1.

Hunter was just in a different class.
