I didn't want Griffiths. I didn't want Sutton, either ("never worth £6mil FFS").

Whodda thunk that I could be won over by a player scoring a screamer against the purple Huns <whistle>

I always said he was just what was needed <whistle>

Seriously though as much as I wanted someone "better" than him - his workrate has impressed the hell out of me. Its all you can ask really is for players to try hard everytime they play

If Samaras tried as hard as Griffiths and put as much effort in every game.....

    This <ok>

I wasn't keen on him signing but the moment he put pen to paper I wanted him to do well.

Hope he can keep his form and good behaviour going. Will keep the press off his back and allow him to concentrate on the fitba'.

Griffiths was nobody's idea of a bluechip signing (remember those <laugh>). But I'm sure all of us want him to be a great player for us now he's actually here.

Not convinced he'll make much difference to our chances of making an impact in europe but if he rattles in 20+ goals a season domestically I'm not sure we can really complain. Mind you, if we can beat Barca with Miku up front ... <whistle>

I don't get why footballers are expected to be behavioural role models off the pitch. Unless you're concerned his off-field behaviour will affect his on-field performances?

    <doh>

Who said he should be a "role model"?

His behaviour, whether on or off the pitch, is now representative of Celtic Football Club. Much the same as the behaviour of the employee of any company is also representative.

As a Celtic fan I expect the staff, playing or otherwise, to act in a manner which is acceptable. No "role model" about it, just act like a civilised member of society. <ok>

Oh my. Plenty of people expect players to be "role models"; it's hardly a massive logical leap to discuss the issue if someone (ie you) appears to emphasize previous off-field behaviour more than on-field performances when discussing a potential signing.

That aside, I agree with the jist of what you've said above. <ok>

A role model is someone whose exemplary actions/behaviours are to be emulated. You can probably count on one hand the number of current footballers who are actual role models.

The kind of people who expect footballers to be role models are dickhead pundits and wags who are bumping their gums for attention.

Well perhaps but I think some people do get very precious about the "player as a club representative" off the field. And particularly celtic fans, if online opinion is anything to go by. I'm talking generally here, not specifically about Griffiths btw.

I agree with that and that Griffiths should be allowed every opportunity to prove himself on and off field.

My real issue was with Celtic as a club, the way they were conducting business and the complete pish they were trying to con us with.
