You must have missed last night's game...his positioning at times was push and he got lucky more than once. He is our classiest player but his performances in Europe have not been great and without class performances at champions league levels I doubt we'll get much more than 6m for him. Maybe 8 if pistol does his magic. I don't want him to leave...he does though.
He cut out plenty in front last night with his positioning and his distribution was excellent all night, even Hummels gets caught out with balls over the top. The way we played last night, chasing the game for the vast majority of the night, the defence was always going to be left vulnerable at times, the first goal he was caught sleeping for a split second with the Shaqiri run but it happens, he got back and forced Shaqiri into the first time shot which was going wide until Gordon knocked back in play while Izaguirre was dreaming. Apart from the that small part in the first goal he couldnt be blamed for the other goals, nothing he could do about Izaguirres clearance or Gordons second blunder. Dont forget him and Denayer are going from a canter in the SPL every week to dealing with Icardi, Shaqiri and Palacio. Van Dijk is only 23 and is far from the finished article, he has the potential to be a top class centre back in my opinion and i wouldnt sell him for less than 10m. Personally I wouldnt sell him full stop because we wont be able to replace him, but if he wants to go and the board want the money want can you do. I think we need to remember about last night when the defence is getting slaughtered because it was 3-3, it was more bad luck than bad defending, two goalkeeping blunders and an unfortunate bounce. Inter took their chances last night, thats what happens when you have quality attackers. No one is mentioning Griffiths miss? That was the real lack of quality that cost us the win last night, in attack, not defence.
Its funny because ive seen games where the defence is breached 10 times, 5 sitters, 4 miracle saves, 1 goal and they call it an epic defensive display. Like the night we beat Barca, other nights you could have lost 5 or 6, luck plays a big part and it went against us last night so we cant be too harsh on defence, if we had more quality in attack we would have still overcame the bad luck.
