I think the nail was hit on the head when the word 'pathetic' was used. It applies to the act as well as the consequences. However, you can't expect the governing body to ignore its own rules. I can see the argument that the rules shuld maybe be revised to avoid silly consequences like this, but Leigia Warsaw really should have known better. Celtic just got lucky.
I don't necessarily blame Celtic and see it as them getting just desserts. They couldn't give their berth to Legia even if they wanted to, this is a UEFA thing. But a lot of people are annoyed that a team being disqualified after winning 6-1 and only gave the illegible players two minutes on the field after all goals is unnecessarily harsh, additionally they think that it was harsh because he actually missed two games previous to the Celtic clash but they were ruled to have not counted because the player wasn't registered for the first round by the club. Whilst most agree rules are rules, UEFA's rules are notoriously convoluted, notirioulsy complicated, notoriously open to interpretation and notorious for changing season by season. Lawyers don't like UEFA's rule book because every team is basically playing Russian roulette as they cannot possibly know it all no matter how big their legal team, which is why it takes UEFA themselves weeks to adjudicate an issue. Common sense should have prevailed and at the same time UEFA should have started a drastic overhaul of its rule book, simplifying it for all involved. Add UEFAs rules to all the new player contracts that need writing and checking of those leaving, all the sponsorship contracts being signed and ended... Even a club like Man Utd and Real Madrid with their army of lawyers will one day make a mistake like this. They have literally have one month to go through the entire rule book, way to little time.
Indeed they did and no one - least of all Celtic - have said anything to the contrary. As for Pathetic I agree, but only one club has acted pathetically in all of this and it is'nt Celtic. They have said nothing about any of this, Celtic, contrary to some reports, made no complaint to UEFA. UEFA made the decision on their own with zero input or interference by anyone at Celtic. Celtic got lucky but rules are rules and Legia had to forfeit the game 0-3, same as has happened in the past in the Champions League.
People are missing the Big Picture here, Legia may have gained no advantage in the game against Celtic but against St Pat's and the 4-1 game in Poland against Celtic they named a 25 man squad which excluded the suspended player. That means for 3 full games they had 25 players to choose from instead of 24. If a player is suspended then the UEFA rules are designed to also punish the offending club by reducing the available number of players, 10 players suspended = squad of 15 to choose from, it's simple. If a player is Suspended then for his suspension to be counted in a game he has to be registered and named on the 25 player list. If he's not on the list then his suspension is not counted as being served. Imagine every club ignored this rule? The huge European Clubs could simply put top quality players in the 25 man squad to their heart's content and ignore any consequences, it would be a free for all. Legia had a full squad of 25 players to choose from in 3 games. They must have known they could not do that, if it's such a convoluted and complicated rule how come it's so rare, surely to God loads of teams would have made the same error? Legia were "at it" and they got caught, Celtic were lucky.
Loads of teams have made loads of errors. They are not the same errors, but rules are broken simply because they are not known off by heart.
If I were running a club i'd make sure I knew the important rules though. Maybe Legia did know and ignored them anyway, hoping that no one would notice?
The only turds on here are your posts which were dealt with on the Celtic forum and shown to be utter drivel.
