The negatives there are things that can be improved with coaching and training - certain things you can't teach. I'm really happy at the sound of that. I checked with my only Dutch pal yesterday so I could look clever in the pub tonight. It's pronounced "Dirrick Boo-rich-ter" with the "ch" as in loch (to be honest, I presumed Derk is pronounced the same as Dirk). Cove, yer some guy I'll be keeping an eye on your blogs.
Thanks, Boerrigter is indeed pronounced like that, but with a hard G that only people from above the rivers in The Netherlands can pronounce. And Derk is like in twerk but then with a D.
Was he born and raised in Tilburg cause that makes a difference. There's even a wikipedia page about this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_and_soft_G_in_Dutch
Yeah, he was - he's not a football fan, though, so he's not a Willem II man. He has lived in Scotland for over 15 years. Really interesting guy, though - he has a Jewish surname but was raised as RC - I presume that was due to the "visitors" in the 1940s.
Well, ever since the 60ies and 70ies, Christian religions allowed marriages of couples that didn't share the same church. So there was a lot of mixture in those days, but what also happened since the 60ies was that the churches lost millions of members. People stopped going to churches and right now 45% of the country doesn't state as follower of any religion or is an Atheist. 27% thinks there is no god, which is the third highest percentage in Europe. This is a very screwed up country looking at the past though
